The Playstation 5

With this year being more distant is a good thing. Staying at home is at an all-time high;

while staying at home, it's often easy to get bored. With the Playstation 5 being out for a couple

of months, people have had the chance to own the console, and they have not been disappointed.

The Playstation 5 is the best home entertainment console because of the exclusive entertainment,

quality, and price.

Sony has always been an entertainment company. They are a business of making

electronics for entertainment. They have made tons of electronics from radios to televisions but

they have had the most success making video game consoles and video games. Their Biggest

success was the release of the Playstation 2. According to the book “Japanese Management: Market

Entry, Crisis And Corporate Growth”, “The Playstation 2 has more than 155 million units sold as of

March 31, 2012”(Burak). As of November12, 2020 their newest console, the Playstation 5 (PS5)

has been available to the public. However is it the best thing on the market to buy?

First of all, the Playstation 5 has the best exclusive entertainment at the moment. With

Xbox being the only competitor to Sony for home consoles, it's hard to say which console is

better. They’re both high-performance consoles; however, the ps5 has them beat in game

exclusives. Ever since the release of the Playstation 4 console exclusives has pushed the

Playstation 4 sales to “102.8 million units (As of September 30, 2019)”(Burak). With both

consoles released the Playstation 5 is the only console with an overwhelming spotlight. It already

has a clear line up of games to play plus Playstation 4 games that people already played. Games

like “Spider Man: Miles Morales, Demon's souls, Spider Man, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart,

Sackboy Adventures, God of War, Ghost of Tsushima, etc..”. However the PS5 can do more,

“this includes, but is not limited to, video streaming applications, music streaming applications,

video conferencing applications, web browsers, and cloud storage applications” (Mattioli and

Lahtiranta 3). With 4K media and a bunch of streaming options, it is clear that this console is

worth the money.

Also, the Playstation 5 has a reasonable price. The console costs $499 for the disc version

and $399 for the digital version. The digital version has the same performance with the cost of

having no disc drive. It's a small downgrade considering most people rely on streaming services

for entertainment like Netflix, Youtube, Hulu, etc. It's cheaper than most new phones on the

market. According to Mattoli and Lahtiranta in their paper The Hidden Potential Within Video

Game Consoles, “Video game consoles, at the time of their respective times of release, have

been priced at or below USD 499 for the last several years. For comparison, USD 499 spent

today can buy a Lenovo ThinkCentre M720q which includes 128 GB of internal storage, an Intel

Pentium Gold G5400T SoC, and 4 GB of DDR4 DRAM”(5). In comparison to the Lenovo

ThinkCentre M720q the Playstation 5 has 825 GB of internal storage, an AMD Zen 2, and 16GB

of GDDR6 DRAM. Its quality is better than its price. For a really good quality console this price

is very reasonable.

Finally, the Playstation 5 is a quality console. The outside of the Playstation 5 is a

futuristic looking piece of technology. It has a clean and simple look to it. It's made of durable

plastic to withstand a few drops from 2 feet but it's still something you shouldn't drop. “ One

must consider patching, maintenance, and management of the device throughout its entire

lifecycle.”(Mattioli and Lahtiranta 5). The technology inside is made up of a powerful AMD

CPU and another powerful AMD GPU. The console can easily perform games with higher

quality graphics and smooth high framerates. The console has silent fans and is properly vented

throughout the console being on. The controller for the Playstation 5 is a bulkier controller than

the Playstation 4. It has Sony's new dualsense technology in it. The controller can perform

quality vibrations and the triggers have resistance to them when playing certain games. The

console itself also has a 825GB NVMe SSD. NVMe SSDs are new technology that load data

faster than any other storage device. The quality and performance of this device is amazing.

Concerns about the PS5 are the digital PS5 vs the disc PS5 and the availability of the

console. The loss of the disk drive is a big deal for $100 cheaper. It's all about the consumer at

this point. If the consumer has a lot of Blu Rays and DVDs then getting the disk drive would be a

must. However for someone who mainly uses streaming services they just can get the cheaper

one and still be satisfied with it. They’re paying for the streaming services anyway. The console

is hard to get a hold of. So far right now when the console becomes available it gets sold out

right away. The console is still a relatively new console and Sony has been producing them

carefully to ensure their console doesn't have any glitches or bugs. The console will continue to

produce for enough people to get them if they ever want them so in short be patient.

The Playstation 5 will surely no doubt be one of the best consoles to ever release. It has

top of the line technology at a very reasonable price. Anything after this console's release will be

the small scale upgrades compared to the release. With almost everything being an upgrade since

the Playstation 4 it is indeed the best entertainment machine money can buy.
