Acceptable Use Policy assignment

Rebecca Hyman

Post recommendations you may have if your school leaders asked for your input as to considerations
when using social/digital media tools in the educational environment. Consider the purpose of
social/digital tools, the benefits and the regulations for learner, teacher/facilitator, administrator, and
parent/guardian’s safe, healthy, legal, and ethical use in the recommendation for the Social Media
Policy/AUP. The recommendation for the Social Media Policy/ AUP will serve as a model for facilitating
the use of digital information and technologies school-wide.

i. One recommendation I would make would be mandatory and thorough

professional development for all staff members on how to teach and practice
digital citizenship. Additionally I would recommend hosting 1-2 parent workshops
to teach the same content. One resource I’d recommend utilizing for this crucial
content when gearing instruction towards parents and families of k-5 learners is
Google’s Be Internet Awesome initiative.

ii. If asked for input in regards to social/digital media tools in the educational
environment, I would recommend generating and providing email addresses to
all students and participants through one unified system. For example, all
students and staff would receive a gmail account. Then, when making future
accounts, participants would use this designated email account to sign up and
register. This would allow the school to ensure safety and logical restrictions for
all users. It would also protect from young students sharing personal information
online as the username would be generated for them.
