JORGE BRAVO MARTINEZ

Edu 280
VERACRUZ, MEXICO
• I was born in a small farming town in Veracruz Mexico in
August 19, 1999, I lived here until the age of 7.
• I am the youngest of 3 and an only child for my dad.
• The highest grade of education in the small town I grew
up in was middle school so I am lucky to be here and
be able to attend college.
• Everyday after school I would spend farming with my
dad, helping him and sometimes it wouldn’t be so
much after school as I wouldn’t attend school often
due to bad behavior problems.
• Right before turning 7 my parents decide to take my to
Las Vegas, we left everything behind in search of a
better future for me and my brothers according to my
parents.
BEFORE
• Once living in Las Vegas I had to learn a new language and a
new culture very different from mine. One thing that really
sucked was my favorite cartoons I used to enjoy like courage the
cowardly dog were in English and not in Spanish.
• I didn’t try McDonald’s until The age of 9 that’s when I had my
first happy meal, getting used to the drastically change of
environment and culture, language etc… wasn’t easy as I
struggled a lot specially in school. The change of food was good
and bad I liked the new foods but I also gained a lot of weight
while being a kid.
• School was a nightmare for me growing up, the different
language made things so difficult, from elementary school to
middle school I had really bad grades. I remember crying to my
parents some nights wanting to go back home... I felt like I
couldn’t fit in.
• One thing I really enjoyed about living in the u.s which I still do is
being able to play video games I fell in love with them as I
couldn’t afford them back in Mexico. At this point every summer
break I would spend it playing video games as they were my
favorite.
BELIEFS AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS
• Eventually all my challenges from migrating to another country were
over by high school. With the help of my parents and friends I was
able to graduate with an advanced diploma.
• An advanced diploma while I was working part time at the school
cafeteria and Walmart and being in school is one of greatest
accomplishments, as I am the first in the family to do so.
• School is very valuable for me as I think it is the only way to a better
life. There’s a saying my dad always told me as a kid when he would
take me to work “a pencil is lighter than a shovel” and he is
absolutely right. Although a pencil is lighter than a shovel I pay for my
education with a shovel, I am a landscaper in construction.
• Landscaping isn’t an easy job but it is very beautiful but nothing will
compare to natural beauties like mountain ranges, forests, waterfalls
etc… on my free time I like hiking or riding mountain bike, I love
seeing the beautiful things god gave us to admire.
BELIEFS AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS

• I am a nature lover as I like looking at nature.

I’ve actually climbed to the peak of mountain
Charleston! I believe hikes are a great sense of
accomplishments as you feel really happy when
I finally get to the highest point of the trail. I am
a person who thinks small accomplishments are
just one step closer to a big accomplishments.
• Another thing I like to do for fun is lift weights. I
like seeing my host changing and getting
stronger, I go to the gym almost everyday. The
only times I don’t go to the gym is when I have
a lot of homework or I’m really tired from work.
FUTURE
• Someday in the near future I would like to become a teacher. I’ve
tried many different jobs and I’ve sticked to school for a teaching
degree the longest out of everything. I believe my call is this life is to
become a teacher and inspire kids to do great things in life. I truly
believe I can help inspire kids. I come from a really poor environment
and for this being I would like to teach in low income areas. I think I
would help these kids the most as they are similar to me. This is one of
my goals for the future.
• My second goals is to help my family out. My family isn’t poor but nor
are they rich. They have helped me since I was a kid, gave me
enough and more than I deserved. One day I would like to give back
to them and the people who helped me reach where I am today.
Growing up in a catholic household I was taught to be great full for
the things I have, and when given the opportunity to help the less
fortunate.
• This is my personal artifact thank you ….
