PREFACE

Dear Parent/ Guardian:

This Teach at Home Guide is your teaching manual for the Learn
at Home workbooks—a compilation of five major subjects containing
lessons and activities to study within a span of ten weeks while your
child is at home and schools are closed.

Through this guide, you can help your child learn some basic
operations, concepts, and processes under the subjects of English,
Filipino, Araling Panlipunan, Math, and Science.

It includes a walkthrough of the different features of each

workbook, that you can explain to your child. A matrix is also laid out
to identify the different learning competencies that are found in the
workbooks. These competencies are prescribed by the Department of
Education’s K-12 program.

Lessons and activities in the workbooks are labeled when they
can be used per week, but do encourage your child to learn at their
own pace. You can also monitor and check their learning progress as
you go through the workbooks every day.

Stay safe and enjoy teaching at home!

TEST BOOKLET

The Test Booklet

provides various
types of paper-and-
pencil tests as a
form of assessment,
among them multiple
choice, identification,
true or false, and fill
in the blanks. These
are supplemented
by alternative
assessment
strategies which are
found in the Activity
Book and Supplement.
An Answer Key is
provided in this
booklet for the parent
or guardian to check
the learner’s answers
in each exercise.

2
activity sheetS

Activity Sheets
are divided into
Performance
Tasks and Graphic
Organizers
per subject. A
performance task
is a learning activity
or assessment that
students can do
to demonstrate
their knowledge,
understanding
and proficiency.
Performance tasks
require a tangible
output that serves as
evidence of learning.
Rubrics are provided
in this booklet for the
parent or guardian
to check the learner’s
output.

3
activity sheetS
A graphic organizer
is also known as a
knowledge map,
concept map, story
map, cognitive
organizer, advance
organizer, or concept
diagram. It is a
pedagogical tool that
uses visual symbols
to express knowledge
and concepts
through relationships
between them. The
main purpose of a
graphic organizer is
to provide a visual aid
to facilitate learning
and instruction.

The Weekly tabs

found on the
workbooks suggest
the schedule of
lessons to be studied
per week, based
on the DepEd’s
curriculum guide.

4
supplement

The Supplement
Workbook contains
articles, discussions,
exercises, and
activities under the
five major subjects.
The featured articles
cover interesting
topics that further
explore subject
matter concepts. The
readings encourage
discussion, which
parents/ guardians
can do with the
student after reading
each article, to ensure
comprehension.

5
supplement

The Supplement
Workbook contains
additional readings
that consist of
concept articles, trivia,
comic strips, movie
reviews, writeups
on historical figures,
and other interesting
topis that can engage
a young student.
These additional
readings encourage
discussion, which
parents/ guardians
can do with the
student after reading
each article, to ensure
comprehension.

6
supplement

The Supplement
Workbook contains
additional exercises,
workshops, do-it-
yourself (DIY) tasks,
experiments, and
other activities
that can engage a
child to learn more
about topics. These
additional activities
encourage discussion,
which parents/
guardians can do
with the student
after working on
each task, to ensure
comprehension.

SCIENCE GRADE 7
At the end of Grade 10, the learners should have developed scientific, technological, and environmental literacyand can make that
would lead to rational choices on issues confronting them. Having been exposed to scientific investigations related to real life,
they should recognize that the central feature of an investigation is that if one variable is changed (while controlling all others),
the effect of the change on another variable can
be measured. The context of the investigation can be problems at the local or national level to allow them to communicate
with learners in other parts of the Philippines or even from other countries using appropriate technology. The learners should
demonstrate an understanding of science concepts and apply science inquiry skills in addressingreal-world problems through
scientific investigations.
At the end of Grade 7, learners can distinguish mixtures from substances through semi-guided investigations. They realize the
importance of air testing when conducting investigations. After studying how organ systems work together in plants and animals
in the lower grade levels, learners can use a microscope when observing very small organisms and structures. They recognize
that living things are organized into different levels:
Cells, tissues, organs, organ systems, and organisms. These organisms comprise populations and communities, which interact
with non-living things in ecosystems.
Learners can describe the motion of objects in terms of distance and speed, and represent this in tables, graphs, charts, and
equations. They can describe how various forms of energy travel through different mediums. Learners describe what makes up
the Philippines as a whole and the resources found in the archipelago. They can explain the occurrence of breezes, monsoons,
and ITCZ, and how these weather systems affect people. They can explain why seasons change and demonstrate how eclipses
occur.

life, they should recognize that the central feature of an investigation is that if one variable is changed (while controlling all

At the end of Grade 8, learners can describe the factors that affect the motion of an object based on the Laws of Motion. They
can differentiate the concept of work as used in science and in layman’s language. They know the factors that affect the trans-

They recognize other members of the solar system.
Learners can explain the behaviour of matter in terms of the particles it is made of. They recognize that ingredients in food
and medical products are made up of these particles and are absorbed by the body in the form of ions.
Learners recognize reproduction as a process of cell division resulting in growth of organisms. They have delved deeper into
the process of digestion as studied in the lower grades, giving emphasis on proper nutrition for overall wellness. They can
participate in activities that protect and conserve economically important species used for food.
