To a child’s brain there are few things more stimulating, than the art of the moving picture.

Being
a visual medium, Film and Television has captured my imagination throughout my life. I have
been making Films since I was only 8 years old, starting with LEGO Animations, and developing
into Live Action Fan Films. All of which were based on Doctor Who. Between the ages of 7 and
13, Doctor Who was my entire life. My obsession with the program, led to me wanting to work on
the show in the future. I believe I am suitable for this course because I have constantly shown a
passion and desire to create Films of my own, and I am eager to learn, and develop my skills, in
order to take my Films to the next level. Over almost 10 years of amateur Filmmaking I have
gathered valuable experience; which has not only shaped me as a Filmmaker, but also as an
individual. The creativity of Film, coupled with its hands-on practicality, motivates me greatly.
Creative writing was always my favourite activity in School, which led to my attempts to write my
own fantasy novel, in year 5. Being able to share stories, lessons, and experiences, through any
medium; is something that has always fascinated me. In regards to previous studies, I chose
Drama as one of my GCSE options. I have always been interested in Acting, and seen it as a
career path for most of my school life. However, after studying Film more in-depth, and helping
out my best friend in creating content for his YouTube channel, I decided that I would be better
suited to a role behind the camera. Following this, I left school after my GCSE’s and came to
study Film and Media Production at Carlisle College. There, I began assuming the role of
Director on many of my projects, and because of this I have been able to develop better
leadership skills, as well as improving my ability to communicate with other members of a team.
Recently (2019), a couple of friends and I created a promotional video for a local Barber. We
have since attempted to work with more local businesses, but this was made impossible by the
restrictions of Covid-19. Working on this promotional video, marked the birth of our very own
Production Company - 1Wrd Productions. In every walk of life, I have shown great interest in
creative mediums; as I believe my creativity is my individuality. Although, I recognise that these
are skills that I can develop further, and I am determined to do so. After leaving school, I found a
job rather quickly. I have worked at McDonald’s for over a year now, and this has helped me in a
number of ways. Like many teenagers leaving school, I wasn’t a particularly confident person in
social situations. With the help of customer interaction at work, as well as meeting new people in
College, I have improved upon this greatly. I spent the first 16 years of my life, living as a Young
Carer. My twin brother, Harley, and I were born under extraordinary circumstances. He was born
with severe Epilepsy, and severe Cerebral Palsy. Being unable to walk, talk, or eat without a
feeding tube, he required the entire family to care for him. Mum, Dad, my two older brothers, and
myself, all made sacrifices to ensure he got the care he needed. He was our inspiration. Sadly, in
April of 2019, he passed away after 16 years of fighting. Understandably, we were crushed. This
led to myself missing 2 months of school. Despite all that had gone on, I got my head down,
worked hard, and achieved grades beyond what I thought I was capable of. I am incredibly proud
of how I did, and this is undoubtably my greatest achievement. My immediate goal upon
completing the course is to break into the Film industry and gain experience. Beyond this, I
aspire to be a Director on my own original film. This is extremely ambitious, but I truly believe it is
within my reach due to my willingness to apply myself to this course and learn as much as I can.
I have no doubt that the course will help me achieve these goals, both immediate and distant.
