Introductory Message

For the facilitator:

Welcome to the TLE Grade 8 Module on Electronic Products Assembly and

Servicing (EPAS)!

This Self- Learning Module was collaboratively designed, developed and

reviewed by educators from the Schools Division Office of Pasig City headed by its
Officer-In-Charge Schools Division Superintendent, Ma. Evalou Concepcion A.
Agustin in partnership with the Local Government of Pasig through its mayor,
Honorable Victor Ma. Regis N. Sotto. The writers utilized the standards set by the K
to 12 Curriculum using the Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELC) in
developing this instructional resource.

This learning material hopes to engage the learners into guided and
independent learning activities at their own pace and time. Further, this also aims
to help learners acquire the needed 21st century skills especially the 5 Cs namely:
Communication, Collaboration, Creativity, Critical Thinking and Character while
taking into consideration their needs and circumstances.

In addition to the material in the main text, you will also see this box in the
body of the module:

Notes to the Teacher

This contains helpful tips or strategies that
will help you in guiding the learners.

As a facilitator you are expected to orient the learners on how to use this
module. You also need to keep track of the learners' progress while allowing them to
manage their own learning. Moreover, you are expected to encourage and assist the
learners as they do the tasks included in the module.
For the learner:

Welcome to the TLE Grade 8 Module on Electronic Products Assembly &

Servicing (EPAS)!

This module was designed to provide you with fun and meaningful
opportunities for guided and independent learning at your own pace and time. You
will be enabled to process the contents of the learning material while being an active
learner.

LESSON
A computer system is made up of hardware and software components. These
are the devices that makes up the whole process of using a computer from data
encoding, processing, to releasing an information. The two main components are
hardware devices and software devices:
Hardware refers to the physical components of a computer. It is any part that
we can touch. Primary electronic devices that build up the computer.
Examples: system unit, monitor, printer, keyboard, mouse, speaker, etc.
Software is a collection of instructions, procedures, documentation that
performs different tasks on a computer system. It is a programming code executed
on a computer processor. These are applications in an operating system.
Examples: MS Word, MS Excel, Power Point, Google chrome, Photoshop, Database,
etc.
Read the table for further comparison of hardware and software:
HARDWARE SOFTWARE
Physical parts of a computer that Set of instruction that tells a
cause processing of data. computer exactly what to do.
Manufactured. Developed and engineered.
Cannot perform any task without Cannot be executed without
software. hardware.
Physical electronic devices we can We can see but can’t actually
see and touch. touch.
It has 4 main categories: It is mainly divided into:
 Input device  System Software
 Output device  Programming Software
 Storage device  Application Software
 Internal components
Not affected by computer viruses. Affected by computer viruses.

BASIC HARDWARE COMPONENTS:

“Computer,” Computer Hope, December 12, 2019

Basic components of a computer include system unit, monitor, keyboard, mouse,

and a speaker. Technicians shall be able to process planning, task preparations,
and on the job process using these hardware devices.

1) SU (System Unit) – is the main part of a desktop computer. It is also known

as the “tower” or “chassis”. It includes the motherboard, CPU, RAM, and other
internal components.
2) Monitor – a hardware device that displays the video and graphics information
generated in a computer. Similar to a TV but usually display information at a
much higher resolution.

3) Keyboard – a primary input device composed of buttons that create letters,

numbers, and symbols, as well as other functions.

4) Mouse – a handheld hardware input device that controls a cursor in a GUI

(graphical user interface) and can move and select text, icons, files, and folders
in the computer.

5) Speaker – a hardware device that connect to a computer to generate sound.

The signal used to produce the sound that comes from a computer speaker is
created by the computer’s sound card.
