TS 8 Enclosure

This document provides guidelines for installing cables in trays for a proposed 230kV/66kV substation and ancillary buildings. It specifies that cables must be carefully laid in trays without damage and cut to fit the tray contour. It also provides requirements for grouping and layering different voltage and sized cables, including maintaining clearance between groups and layers. Cable trays must provide 20% additional free space after cable installation.

Proposed Erection of 230kV/66kV Substation and Ancillary Buildings on Lot 05036W MK 07 off Tuas South

Lane/Tuas South Avenue 9

3.3.25 – Electrical Installation

4.1.1.1 Cable in Trays

All cables shall be carefully laid in or pulled through the tray system so that neither the
cables nor the trays are damaged. Cable may be laid along the side of the tray system
during placement provided it is protected from dirt, water, oil, or other detrimental
materials and from mechanical injury. Cables shall be cut sufficiently long to conform to
the contour of the trays, with particular attention paid to vertical inside bends. All
excessive slack shall be removed from the cable so that it lies parallel to the sides of the
trays.

All cables shall be installed parallel and straight in cable trays, bundled in group, except
as modified below. 230V cables and 400V cables can be on the same trays but shall be in
separate groups. Cables rated at less than 230V and those rated above 400V shall be laid
on separate trays from the 230V and 400V cables.

Unless otherwise approved by the S.O., low voltage power and control cables shall be
installed in configurations described below to maintain their calculated current carrying
capacity.

16 mm2 and smaller multi core cables shall be allowed to be grouped in 2 layers
on cable ladder and trays. Each group shall not exceed 18 cables (two layers, nine
cables per layer)

16 mm2 to 95 mm2 multi core cables shall be allowed to be grouped in a single

layer, and to a maximum of nine cables per group. Spacing between groups shall
not be less than the diameter of the largest cable in the group. The sum of the
diameters of all cables shall not exceed the tray width.

120 mm2 and larger multi core cables shall be allowed to be grouped in a single
layer and to a maximum of six cables per group.

Power cables above 16 mm2 shall be installed in a single layer to prevent

overheating of cables. Multiple layers of power cables in one tray shall be
prohibited. Care shall also be taken to ensure balanced current distribution
among the 3 phases.

Single core cables shall be allowed to be installed in trefoil formation in single

layer using trefoil clamps or similar. Individual single core circuit may be installed
touching adjacent circuits. The sum of the diameters of all cables shall not exceed
the tray width.

Where a cable is to be installed in a configuration other than described above, the

Contractor, with the acceptance of the S.O., shall modify the cable selection to
ensure that the cable installed has sufficient capacity to serve its load within the
requirements of SS 638.

The cable trays shall be sized to provide 20% additional available free space after
installation of the cables.

The cable shall be tied to the trays with nylon ties as necessary (but at not greater than
3-metre intervals) to hold it in place.
