service room
E. TESTING OF COMPRESSOR
Unless otherwise stated, main equipment, valves and other ancillary units shall be tested to
various stipulations stated in Indian Standards of BIS or any other reputed international
standard listed.
The Water Sprinkler System is a special fixed pipe system. It is connected to a reliable
and dedicated water supply source. The system is well equipped with sprinkler nozzles
of specific water discharge and temperature rating (refer table 13) and impingement over
the area to be protected. The piping system is connected to the water supply through an
automatically actuated Alarm valve which initiates the flow of water. Alarm valves for
the sprinkler system are actuated by activation of sprinkler nozzles.
In event of fire in the facility, the heat responsive frangible glass bulb shatters and water
flows through the sprinkler and strike the deflector. After striking the deflector, flow
deflects and uniform water spray pattern forms which then suppress the fire.
28
MAIN COMPONENTS OF THE SYSTEM
The quantity and type of alarm valves are required as per the bill of quantity mentioned in
annexure-I
Sprinkler Nozzles shall be installed at ceiling level over the area to be protected inside
the facility and near the equipment in such a manner that their full length and cross
section is adequately covered and water is sprayed uniformly. Shall be erected as per
reference drawings mentioned in Annexure-II
The quantity and type of sprinkler nozzles required as per the bill of quantity mentioned in
annexure-I
Pipe, Pipe fittings & Pipe Supports for Deluge & Sprinkler Systems:
The quantity and type of fittings & supports required are as per the bill of quantity
mentioned in annexure-I
M.S. pipe along with fittings and supports shall be provided from tapping point from
hydrant line onward upto Deluge & Alarm valve assembly. ERW heavy grade pipe as
per IS 1239 (Part 1) and 1239(Part.2) for size range 15 NB to 150 NB, Material
Specification FE 410 Grade and as per IS 3589:1991 for size 200 NB to 600 NB,
Material Specification FE 410 Grade.
The bill of quantity for pipe supports is given in annexure-I. The location of supports is as
per the detail engineering drawings attached for the respective facility.

03.05 TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION FOR VALVES
Gate valves shall be of rising spindle type. For non-rubber lined valves, the valves for
shut off shall be gate type made of cast iron or gun metal and shall be of flanged ends for
size above 40mm. Non return valves shall be of dual plate type suitable for installation in
both horizontal and vertical lines. For rubber lined lines, the valves for shut off shall be
diaphragm type suitably lined with rubber or Teflon. Valves shall have indicators for
`ON' and `OFF' position.
Motor operated valve shall be complete with electric motor, starter, necessary gear drive,
position limit switches, torque switches and all accessories as required. The valves shall
also have hand wheel for manual operation.
All valves shall be arranged in the front of the vessel and at a height suitable for easy
manual operation. In case the height of any hand wheel/lever of a valve is more than
1200 mm above the floor, pedestal for operation shall be provided. However, the
Tenderer shall provide the hand wheels within 1200 mm to avoid pedestals.
Valves shall be designed, manufactured, tested and marked as per relevant Indian
Standards/ reputed International Standards and design codes.
Valves shall be of pressure rating to suit the system requirements at the points of
installation.
Each valve shall be supplied with a hand wheel/lever/wrench for operation. For motor
actuated valves, provision shall be made for manual operation in the event of power
failure.
All butterfly valve of nominal size DN200 and above shall be gear operated only.
All the valves provided with hand wheel/lever shall be clearly marked with “OPEN” and
“CLOSED” positions and an arrow to indicate the direction of opening/closing.
Unless otherwise specified, the dimensions and drilling of end flanges shall conform to
ANSI B16.5, Class 150 carbon steel flanges. Flanges shall be at right angles to the axis
of the bore and concentric with the bore
Valves shall be suitable for frequent operation as well as for operation after periods of
prolonged idleness in either open or closed positions.
a. Gate Valves
Bodies of valves shall be double-flanged ends and shall be fitted with seat rings securely
fixed in machined recesses.
Stem shall be of stainless steel and forged or machined from forged/rolled bar. No
casting is permitted.
31
The valve shall be fitted with double faced cast iron wedge made in one piece and
having two machined facing rings securely fixed into machined recesses in the wedge.
The wedge-to-stem connection shall be designed in a way that their connection shall be
stronger than the weakest stem section in order to avoid detachment of the wedge from
the stem while operating the valve.
The guides and lugs shall be provided to guide the wedge through its full travel. The
guides and lugs shall be lined with brass or bronze and the liners shall be secured by
countersunk screws or rivets of non-ferrous metals.
All valves shall be designed for minimum torque requirement. The diameter of the hand
wheel shall not exceed 750 mm but shall be sufficient to enable operation of the valve
under the maximum operating head by a single person with an effort on the rim of the
hand wheel not exceeding 135 Newton-m.
Hand wheels shall be fixed to stem by a washer and a nut screwed on to the stem. The
collar on the stem shall be integral with the stem by forging and shall not be welded on
to it. Hand wheels shall be arranged to turn in a clockwise direction to close the valve.
Generally the valves are to be operated with hand wheel. Gear operation shall be
provided for gate valves of nominal size DN 350 and above unless otherwise specified.
Gear arrangement shall be totally enclosed bevel gear having grease case with grease
nipples/plugs and position indicator for open/ closed position. Gear operators shall be
designed to operate effectively with the pressure across the closed valve equal to the cold
non-shock pressure rating.
The quantity and type of gate valve are required as per the bill of quantity mentioned in
annexure-I
