- Ishaan is having trouble in reading, writing, spelling and comprehension that affects
his academic performance and he already failed 3 rd grade twice. Ishaan is out of focus
in the class. He imagines different things while he is in school. Aside from having
trouble in reading and writing, he is also having trouble in his gross motor skills just like
tying laces and buttoning a shirt. Ishaan also is not learning as quickly as his other
classmates.
2. What important aspects did his previous teachers missed about Ishaan’s learning and
behavioral characteristics? What could be the possible factors that led to teacher’s
failure to address Ishaan’s needs?
- The important aspects that Ishaan’s previous teacher missed in his learning and
behavioral characteristics is the diversity of the students. The teachers and parents of
Ishaan failed to evaluate Ishaan about his problems and they also failed to observe the
symptoms and warning signs that he is showing. They failed to address his needs
because they do not comply with the laws and legislations of special education that’s
why they are not properly equipped to handle students with a wide range of needs.
3. How did Teacher Ram Shankar Nikumbh identified Ishaan’s characteristics? How did
he tell Ishaan’s parents about it? What were the parent’s reaction?
- Teacher Ram was able to identify Ishaan’s characteristics after talking to Ishaan’s
parents, bad academic performance and based on the notebooks and paintings of the
child. Because of teacher Ram’s effort he was able to determine that Ishaan is showing
some symptoms of dyslexia and he told Ishaan’s parents about it. Ishaan’s parents
were shocked and did not accept that there is a problem with their child.
4. What are the teaching interventions done by Teacher Ram Shankar Nikumbh to help
Ishaan?
- The teaching interventions done by Teacher Ram to help Ishaan is that he teaches
Ishaan the letters, how to write the letters, and how to pronounce each letter. He used
different techniques just like counting with the use of stairs, writing letters in the sand,
writing the letters in Ishaan’s hand, molding letters with the use of clays to improve
Ishaan’s motor skills. Teacher Ram made sure that Ishaan is learning while having fun.
- Acceptance, love, patience and care are very important for children. Parents,
teachers, and all of us have a vital role in a child's development. We should not force
them to fit in something that they don’t want or they cannot. Because all students have
unique talents and abilities that can contribute to the world that we live in. Students with
special needs have rights to be in a regular school no matter what their condition is.
