CHAPTER 61

"The Chase on the Lake"

ABSTRACT

This Reflection Paper is all about what Dr. Jose Rizal wants to teach us and
that is to focus on our country's actions and beliefs, to be a true Filipino, to know who
we are and what the real aim of our country which is to flourish. Reading his novel
especially this Chapter 61 we can sense that he is fostering the nationalism and
embracing change in oneself. It helps to realized that we must patronize our country
by upholding the constitution, fostering Philippine culture, and understanding the true
goal of the country by supporting each other towards the development of the country.
Reading this work, readers can determine what is the impact of it in our current
society. In this paper will discussed the conflicts in the said novel that exist until
today's generation. It was an advisory for the Filipinos to fight against the colonizers
and today’s reminder of our history. The characters and the events in the story
resemble our life, culture, and beliefs of Filipino people. This literary piece will mark
in our hearts the values that the novel tells us to be a good role model that will benefit
our country. Reading this literary piece will make us realize the true meaning of
nationalism. The characters and the events in the story are close to Filipino people's
lives, history, and beliefsand also have symbolic meaning like Crisostomo Ibarra,
Elias and all Filipinos. This reflection paper discusses the summary of the story, who
are the characters involved, interpretation of my junior high school teacher,
reflections of the issue in the chapter to modern society, existence of the literary
dilemma in the modern society, implied topic in this chapter and lastly, my personal
reflection that includes my point of view, emotions and reactions to this Chapter 61 of
Noli Me Tangere.
