MUOZ CENTRAL SCHOOL HISTORY

Munoz Central School started from a makeshift hovel in the year

1901 as a lone teacher school in the woodland of Papaya which was the first

name of the earliest settlement. Antonio Buenaventura was the first teacher,

followed by Gregorio Magno in 1905, by Nicholas Ruiz who became a mayor

of Munoz and by Juan Tabing.

This frontier school closed its door when lawless elements led by Juan

Tangkad infiltrated the settlement and the people fled to Palusapis which

was then a barrio of Guimba. When peace and order was restored, settlers

returned to Papaya and established the Municipality of Munoz in 1914 with

Tranquilino Delos Santos as the first mayor in an election done by raising of

hands. Papaya was named Munoz in honor of Francisco de Munoz, a

Spanish military officer of Nueva Ecija who established a hunting

rendezvous in the area which is now Barangay Balante.

With the organization of the new town, the Munoz Elementary school

was reopened with Mr. Gavino Fulgencio as the first principal . A lone

teacher was simultaneously owing in Rang-ayan where the first intermediate

class was opened ahead of the central school.

In the year 1918, classes in central school and Rang-ayan were

suspended due to influenza epidemic that plagued the infant’s municipality

and killed several people including school children. When classes reopened

in 1919, the school District of Munoz was organized with Eugenio Ramos as

the first District Supervisor and Apolonio Zabat as the principal of the

Munoz Elementary School, which was later called the Munoz Cental School.
