“The Impact of Information Revolution to Local and Global Peace and Security”

In the documentary, it mentioned different technologies and machines and electronics


that can be used for war and battles. It revolves around the development of war technologies
which includes sharing digital data which can be used with weapons in the battlefield.
Technologies such as drones wherein the user can see anything in real time and computers that
is built for acquiring and sharing information are mentioned. With the use of these
technologies, it guides soldiers in the area by sharing important information about their enemy
since everyone is connected electronically. In short it promotes situation awareness and
improved communication platform.

I have realized that science, technology, and information are developing and shifting
from mechanical to digital ages. There is a growth in technology during the modern warfare
wherein information and communication technologies developed since they are able to share
digital data in real time and they can acquire and share information with the use of the network
centric warfare. It promotes situation awareness and they can respond immediately to it
because of the fast transmission of information. It also mentioned that network centric warfare
can monitor the movement of its units via the satellite and the activity of the spy planes and
drones are seen together on a single screen and I think that this is an important development at
that time. However, war technologies are not always accurate; they can also fail at times.
Although that there is a system that allows for missiles or bombs to target certain people, It’s
not assured that it will only hit only the target, there is a tendency that it can hit civilians and
take away innocent lives.

With the lecture on the industrial revolution, I learned that in the video they are in the
3rd industrial revolution since they incorporated the use of electronics, IT systems and
automation within their war tactics. So basically, there are undeniably numerous amounts of
benefits that we can have from the computer technology. This includes helping the humanity to
progress technology. However, there are also some bad effects with the rise of information
revolution. Some aspects in which encompasses the security of personal data to the point
wherein it also affects peace around the world. Furthermore, it is also a realm in which can be a
reliable source of both credible and incredible information. An example of which is fake news or
false information wherein makes things unbearable as it can create chaos rather than peace. It
misleads a lot of internet users even, there are also several valid sources of information which
aims to help people on their needs and rely on it. We humans are responsible of the decision
we ought to make. It can be used for battles and for wars yet it can also be used for the
development of our society and generation of new knowledge.
