Understanding the PE Mastery Scale

Activity

Skill Descriptor

E -Excellent
 The student consistently demonstrates a superior level of skill and execution
during both drills and game play beyond what would normally be expected for
their grade level.
 The student consistently demonstrates the ability to perform skills with
accuracy and fluidity.

P - Proficient
 The student frequently demonstrates the skills necessary to be competent and
successful during drills and game play.
 The student can demonstrate the ability to perform skills in drills but not
consistently in game play.

B - Basic
 The student occasionally demonstrates the skills specific to the activity during
drills and games.
 The student can perform skills consistent with their grade level.
 The student can demonstrate the ability to perform skills in drills but is unable
to transfer these skills to game play.

NY – Not Yet
 The student rarely, if ever, demonstrates the skills specific to the activity during
any drills and games and is not demonstrating an understanding when to use the
skills during game play.
 The student is not performing skills relative to their grade level.

Benefits Health
Skill Descriptor

E - Excellent

 The student consistently demonstrates a superior level of knowledge and


understanding of the specific concepts beyond what would normally be expected
for their grade level and lives a lifestyle befitting an active healthy person.

P - Proficient

 The student frequently demonstrates a competent knowledge and understanding of


the specific concepts discussed and exhibits a healthy lifestyle in and out of school.
 The student usually applies concepts and skills with accuracy and independently.

B – Basic
 The student occasionally demonstrates a basic knowledge and understanding of the
concepts but rarely displays an active healthy lifestyle beyond the classroom.
 The student displays skills concepts and understanding at a level consistent with
their grade level.
 The student may require some supports to apply concept and skills at grade level.

NY – Not Yet
 The student rarely, if ever, demonstrates a basic knowledge and understanding of
the concepts and shows destructive rather than healthy lifestyle habits.
 The student is not demonstrating an understanding of any learner outcomes
expected at their grade level.

Cooperation
Skill Descriptor

E - Excellent

 The student consistently demonstrates a superior level of Fair Play, Leadership and
Teamwork, Cooperation and Initiative, along with a Positive Attitude and actively
participates 100% of the time.
 Consistently works at a level beyond what is expected for a student in their grade.

P – Proficient

 The student frequently demonstrates a competent level of Fair Play, Leadership,


Teamwork
 Participates the majority of the time.
 The student has a thorough understanding of the Cooperation Outcomes
 In all outcomes is consistent with a student working at or above grade level

B – Basic

 The student occasionally demonstrates a basic level of Fair Play, Leadership,


Teamwork, Cooperation and Initiative, along with a Positive Attitude and Actively
Participates most of the time but is working at their grade level.
 Works at or just below grade level of these outcomes.

NY - Not Yet

 The student rarely, if ever, demonstrates a basic level of Fair Play, Leadership,
Teamwork, Cooperation and Initiative, does not have a good attitude about
Phys. Ed. and only participates on a limited basis.
 Does not work at grade level for these outcomes.

Do It Daily…..For Life!!
Skill Descriptor

E - Excellent

 The student consistently demonstrates a superior level of Effort and exercises Self-
Control in a Safe and Caring Way. Is Goal Oriented and is actively engaged in
Physical Activity with a School or Community Program.
 Exceeds what is to be expected of a student in their grade.

P – Proficient

 The student frequently demonstrates a competent level of Effort and is usually in


control of their behaviors. Is just beginning to use goals for direction in their lives
and has some engagement with a school or a community program.
 Consistently works at or beyond what is normally expected for a student in their
grade.

B - Basic

 The student occasionally demonstrates a basic level of Effort and can exhibit
negative behaviors toward teacher, self or classmates. Participates in school or
community activities only on rare occasions due to factors beyond their control.
 Usually is working at or below what would normally be expected for a student at
their grade level.

NY = Not Yet

 The student rarely, if ever, demonstrates a basic level of Effort or Cooperative


behaviors.
 Struggles to work with others or removes themselves from small groups. Does not
participate in any form of regular physical activity in or out of school.
