Ans 1.
Sum of m terms of an A.P. = m/2 [2a + (m -1)d]
Sum of n terms of an A.P. = n/2 [2a + (n -1)d]
m/2 [2a + (m -1)d] / n/2 [2a + (n -1)d] = m:n
⇒ [2a + md - d] / [2a + nd - d] = m/n
⇒ 2an + mnd - nd = 2am + mnd - md
⇒ 2an - 2am = nd - md
⇒ 2a (n -m) = d(n - m)
⇒ 2a = d
Ratio of m th term to nth term:
[a + (m - 1)d] / [a + (n - 1)d]
= [a + (m - 1)2a] / [a + (n - 1)2a]
= a [1 + 2m - 2] / a[1 + 2n -2]
= (2m - 1) / (2n -1)
So, the ratio of mth term and the nth term of the arithmetic series is (2m -
1) : (2n -1).

Ans 2. Let two tangent PT and QT are drawn to circle of center O as shown in
figure. Both the given tangents PT and QT touch to the circle at P and Q
respectively. We have to proof: length of PT = length of QT

Construction: draw a line segment, from center O to external point T

{touching point of two tangents}.
Now ∆POT and ∆QOT
We know, tangent makes right angle with radius of circle.
Here, PO and QO are radii. So, ∠OPT = ∠OQT = 90°
Now, both the triangles ∆POT and QOT are right angled triangle.
And a common hypotenuse OT of these [ as shown in figure ]
Now, come to the concept,

9
∆POT and ∆QOT
∠OPT = OQT = 90°
Common hypotenuse OT
And OP = OQ [ OP and OQ are radii]
So, R - H - S rule of similarity
∆POT ~ ∆QOT
Hence, OP/OQ = PT/QT = OT/OT
PT/QT = 1
PT = QT [ hence proved]

Ans 3. Let the speed of the stream be x km/hr.

The speed of the boat upstream = (18-x) km/hr.

And speed of the boat downstream = (18+x) km/hr.

As given in the question,

⇒ (24\18-x) - (24/18+x) = 1

⇒ x²+48x-324=0

⇒ (x+54)(x-6)=0

⇒ X≠-54 , x=6

Original speed of train is 6 km/hr.

Ans 4. Let the Four consecutive terms of the A.P. be

a-3d, a-d, a+d, a+3d.

10
By given Conditions

⇒ 4a = 32

⇒A=8

⇒ (a-3d)(a+3d)/(a-d)(a+d) = 7\15

⇒ 8a² =128d²

⇒ d²= + 2, - 2
Therefore numbers are 2, 6, 10, 14 or 14, 10, 6, 2.

In the given figure, we can see that

⇒ ∠DAO = ∠BAO [Because, AB and AD are tangents in the circle]

So, we take this angle as 1, that is,

⇒ ∠DAO = ∠BAO = 1

Also in quad. ABCD, we get,

⇒ ∠ABO = ∠CBO { Because , BA and BC are tangents }

⇒Also, let us take this angle as 2. that is ,

⇒ ∠ABO = ∠CBO= 2

⇒ As same as, we can take for vertices C and as well as D.

⇒ Sum. of angles of quadrilateral ABCD = 360° { Sum of angles of quad is

360°}

Therefore,

⇒ 2 (1 + 2 + 3 + 4) = 360° { Sum. of angles of quad is - 360° }

⇒ 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 = 180°

Now , in Triangle AOB,

⇒ ∠BOA = 180 – ( a + b )

⇒ { Equation 1 }

Also, In triangle COD,

⇒ ∠COD = 180 – ( c + d )

⇒ { Equation 2 }

⇒From Eq. 1 and 2 we get,

⇒ Angle BOA + Angle COD

= 360 – ( a + b + c + d )

= 360° – 180°

= 180°

17
⇒So, we conclude that the line AB and CD subtend supplementary angles at
the center O

⇒Hence it is proved that - opposite sides of a quadrilateral circumscribing a

circle subtend supplementary angles at the center of the circle.

Ans 19. a₁₇ = 5 + 2a₈ and a₁₁ = 43

we know nth of an A.P. = a + (n-1) d

where

a = first term

d = common difference of A.P

Therefore

⇒ a + (17 - 1) d = 5 + 2{a + (8 - 1) d}

⇒ a + 16 d = 5 + 2a + 14d

⇒ 2d - a = 5 .......(1)

also

⇒ a + (11 - 1)d = 43

⇒ a + 10d = 43 .......(2)

solving 1 and 2 gives

⇒ 12d = 48

⇒d=4

⇒a=3

Ans 45.

Let AB be the height of the building. BC be the distance between the foots
of the building and the tower. Elevation is 30° and 60° from the tower and
the building respectively.

ATP

In right ΔBCD,

tan 60° = CD/BC

⇒ √3 = 50/BC

⇒ BC = 50/√3

also, In right ΔABC,

tan 30° = AB/BC

⇒ 1/√3 = AB/BC

⇒ AB = 50/3

Thus, the height of the building is 50/3.

Ans 46. Let the denominator be x

31
Numerator is x-3

⇒ The fraction is (x-3)/x

when 2 is added to numerator and denominator

we have fraction as (x-1)/(x+2)

ATQ (x-3)/x +(x-1)/(x+2)= 29/20

⇒ (x-3)((x+2) +x(x-1)=x(x+2)*29/20

⇒ (x²-6-x + x²-x)20= 29x²+58x

⇒ 40x²-120-40x=29x²+58x

⇒ 11x²-98x- 120=0

⇒ 11x² - 110x +12x -120=0

⇒ (11x+12)(x-10)=0

Canceling the negative fraction value of x, we have x=10

Then the fraction (x-3)/x=7/10

Ans 49.

Let AB be 60m high building and EC be lighthouse of height (60+h)m and

distance between building and lighthouse be x m.

In △ABC

tan600=P/B

⇒ √3=60/x

⇒ x=60/√3

Or (60/√3)X(√3/√3)=60 √3/3=20√3

⇒ x=20√3

In△ AED

Tan 300=h/x

⇒ 1/√=h/20√3

⇒ 20√3=h√3

⇒ h=20√3/√3

⇒ h=20m

Height of lighthouse=60+20=80m

33
(1) The difference between height of lighthouse and building is 80-
60=20m

(2) The distance between lighthouse and building is 20√3m.

Ans 50. In this equation

a=k,b=-2k,c=6

By quadratic formula

Hence the value of k is 6.

The roots are K=0, 6

Diameter of upper end of bucket = 30 cm

Radius (r1) of upper end of bucket = 15 cm

Diameter of lower end of bucket = 10 cm

Radius (r2) of lower end of bucket = 5 cm

Slant height (l) of frustum

34
Area of metal sheet used to make the bucket

Cost of 100 cm2 metal sheet = Rs. 10

Cost of 545 cm2 metal sheet

=Rs.
Therefore, cost of metal sheet used to make the bucket is Rs. 171.13.

Ans 52.

In a parallelogram the diagonals bisect each other

Midpoint of AC = midpoint of BD

Midpoint formula (x1+x2)/2 ; (y1+y2)/2

(-2+4)/2; (1+b)/2 = (a+1)/2; (0+2)/2

2/2; (1+b)/2 = (a+1)/2 ; 2/2

⇒ 1=(a+1)/2

⇒ a+1 = 2

⇒ a=1

35
⇒ (1+b)/2 = 1

⇒ 1+b=2

⇒ b= 1

⇒ a=1 and b=1

Using distance formula we came find out the length of the sides of
Parallelogram

Distance formula √[(x2-x1)²+(y2-y1)²]

⇒ AB = √[(1+2)²+(0-1)²]

= √(9+1)

=√10u

⇒ BC = √[(4-1)²+(1-0)²]

= √(3²+1²)

= √10u

It is a rhombus as all the sides are equal

Ans 53. ABCD is a parallelogram

∴ diagonal AC and BD bisect each other

Therefore, Mid-point of BD is same as mid-point of AC

⇒ [(a+1)/2,2/2]= [(-2+4)/2, (b+1)/2]

⇒ (a+1)/2=1 and (b+1)/2=1

⇒ a=1,b=1.

Therefore, length of sides is √10 units each.

OR

Area of quad ABCD = Ar △ABD + Ar △BCD

Ar △ABD = ½| (-5)(-5 - 5) + (-4)(5 - 7) + (4)(7 + 5) |

= 53 sq units

Ar △BCD = ½| (-4)(-6 - 5) + (-1)(5 + 5) + (4)(-5 + 6) |

36
= 19 sq units

Hence, area of quad ABCD = 53 + 19 = 72 sq units.
