VIRTUAL DESKTOP TECHNOLOGY (VDT) CIML015
AY 2020/21 APR SEMESTER

PROJECT

1. This project specification consists of 3 pages (including cover page).

2. Look at Submission Deadlines at the end of this document.

3. This project carries a total of 80% weightage of the overall subject assessment with
break down as follows:
• Report – 30%

• Demonstration – 50%
i. Video Presentation of the Report - 10%
ii. eTut submissions – 20% (Within Week 1 to Week 6 Lecture)
iii. Lab Demonstration – 20%

Scenario
You are working in an IT department of a Marketing Company, Global Design and it has 6
branches in Southeast Asia. It is estimated they have

• Management Staff – 60;


• Accountant / Auditor – 60;
• Human Resource – 60;
• Sales / Marketing Staff – 360;

• Electronic Designer – 800;


• Mechanical Designer – 400.

All the staffs travel frequently within all the branches in Southeast Asia. Often they have to
show their design to their customer and sometimes, they need to do coding while they are
travelling. Often staff complaint about lack of technical support when the notebook failed
(on average 10%).

Currently, the staff are provided Windows 10 OS runs the following applications

1) Microsoft Word (All)


2) Microsoft Excel (All)
3) Microsoft PowerPoint (All)
4) Microsoft Outlook (All)
5) Microsoft Access (All)
6) Microsoft Project (All)
7) Skype for Business (All)
8) Symantec Endpoint Protection (All)
9) AutoCAD (All except Accountant, HR, Electronic Designer)
10) AutoDesk ObjectARX programming environment (All except Accountant, HR,
Electronic Designer)
11) Altium Designer (All except Accountant, HR, Mechanical Designer)
12) Altium Nexus (All except Accountant, HR, Mechanical Designer)
13) Altium DXP Platform (All except Accountant, HR, Mechanical Designer) 14) Microsoft
Visual Code (Designer Only)

 Item 9 to 13 requires dedicated GPU as the design can be very complicated.

Your Manager is thinking of providing some Virtual Desktop to deal with the notebook
failure issue. You are requested to write and present a proposal to your manager.

What You Need To Do


Task 1 Report (30%)

Write a report Microsoft Word with less than 30 pages with the following structure

1) Introduction – Background, Aim and Purpose of this Proposal


2) With reference to the above scenario, report on

a. The compute, storage and network solutions;


b. The costing and why such a solutions;
c. Pilot planning for deployment;
3) Conclusion
4) References

Task 2 Presentation (10%)

Submit a 15 mins video recording on Youtube using (PowerPoint Voice Over) to present the
key points regards your Task 1 Report.

e Tutorial is given 1 week to complete.


Lab Demo will be done on Week 7
