Semi Detailed Lesson Plan in Science 3: Chapter 2 Light and Heat Topic - Sources of Light

This lesson plan is for a science class on sources of light. The objectives are for students to identify sources of light, classify them as natural or artificial, and name other sources of heat and light. The lesson will involve observing pictures of light sources, classifying them, identifying natural vs artificial sources, and discussing that the sun is the main natural light source on Earth. Students will play a guessing game to reinforce the concepts and be evaluated on identifying whether various sources use fuel or electricity to produce heat and light.

Semi Detailed Lesson Plan

In
Science 3

I. OBJECTIVE
At the end of each lesson, the pupils should be able to:
1. Identify sources of light; and
2. Classify sources of light into natural and artificial.
3. Name other sources of heat and light.

Values: Appreciation of the importance of conservation.

II. Subject Matter:

Chapter 2 Light and heat
Topic – Sources of Light

A. Science Concept/Idea:
There are other sources of heat and light such as fuel and electricity.

B. Science Processes:
Observing, Inferring, Classifying, Identifying

C. Materials:
Pictures of objects that give off light, real objects may be used instead of
pictures such as candle, flashlight, kerosene lamp, matches, light bulb, and
pictures of lighted charcoal, sun, and moon

III. Procedure:
A. Preparatory Activities:
1. Review
Have the pupils recall the stretching and compressing objects (rubber
band, rubber ball, plastic rope, balloon)
2. Motivation:
Class, when there is power interruption/brownout, what do you use in
order to see things around you? (Flashlight, candle, kerosene lamp)
Ask the class what they know about light. Let the pupils do the KWL Chart.
B. Presentation:
- show the pictures

Natural sources of light Artificial sources of light

1. Then have the pupils work in groups. Have them write on a manila
paper their answers for the activity.

2. Post on the board the manila paper of each group. Give each group 2-3
minutes to present their answers.

3. Discuss the activity. Discuss about the natural sources of light and point
out that the Sun is the main source of light on Earth. Differentiate
natural source to artificial source of light. Show examples to pupils.
Point out that Moon may look like a natural source of light at night but it
is actually reflecting the light from the Sun.

4. Emphasize the following concepts.

 There are different things that give off light.
 The main source of light on Earth.
 There are natural sources of light.
 There are artificial (man-made) sources of light.
 There are things that look like they are sources of light but
actually reflecting light only. Examples: moon,
disco/mirror/glitter ball

5. Games
Pupils may play “Pinoy Henyo.” The game is played by putting
the words written on a strip of paper on the pupil’s forehead. The pupils will
guess the word by asking questions that could help her/him guess the word.
The class can only respond with “oo (yes)”, “hindi (no)”, and “puwede
(maybe).” The words to be guessed must focus on the sources of light.

C. Concept Formation:
Based on our activity what are other things that can give us heat and light?

D. Generalization:
What are other sources of heat and light?
E. Application:
You need to review for your test tomorrow but unluckily there's a power
failure in your place. What are you going to do in order to review?

IV.Evaluation:

Tell whether fuel or electricity was used as source of heat and light.

1. Electric bulb 6. Fireflies

2. Roast a chicken with charcoal 7. Lighter
3. Cook with firewood 8. Laser
4. Iron clothes 9. Fireworks
5. Alcohol lamp 10. Lightning

V. Assignment:

Cut out or draw a picture that can provide us with heat and light. Indicate whether fuel
or electricity was used as a source.
