Conditional: Wearing A Mask Helps Prevent The Spread of Covid-19 Virus

This document is a student's mathematics assessment on if-then statements. It contains an explanation of if-then conditional statements, with examples of converting conditionals into if-then form. The assessment then provides activities for students to practice transforming conditional statements into if-then statements and identifying the hypothesis and conclusion. It concludes by asking students to convert statements about the water cycle into if-then form.

Activity Title : If-then Statements
Learning Target : Transform a statement into an equivalent if-then statement.

A conditional statement is also referred to an if-then statement which is composed of

two clauses: the if-clause and the then-clause. We can denote a letter for each clause, p for the if-
clause and q for the then-clause. This statement is in the form, “if p then q”. The conditional
statement is formed by joining two statement p and q using the word if and then. The p statement
is the hypothesis and the q statement is the conclusion
A simple implication is a simple flow of reasoning from the if-clause to the then-clause.
Example 1:
Conditional: Wearing a mask helps prevent the spread of Covid-19 virus.

If-then form: If you wear a mask, then you help prevent the spread of Covid-19 virus.

Example 2:
Conditional: I will wash the car if the weather is nice.

If-then form: If the weather is nice, then I will wash the car.
