Directions: Answer the questions and Activities based on the topic discussed and understanding.
1. How would you reconcile the advantages and disadvantages that GMOs bring to humans?
The Development of Genetically Modified Organism has impacted humans both positive and
negative ways. To reconcile the advantages and disadvantages that GMO bring to humans, I think
GMO should be use more on human activities like business production on non-food related items
and not for human consumption. GMO should be more focus on developing ways to make human
activities more efficient and not on making synthetic foods which might possibly cause human to be
more susceptible in disease due to the unknown effects of GMO in the body since the study did not
still reach it’s peak development.
I think when we have plants that can glow in the dark and grow along forest trails and nowhere else to
light the way for hikers. When we have edible plants that supply us with much needed vitamins and
supplements in sufficient quantities instead of taking pills or pharmaceuticals. When we have plants that
can survive conditions on Mars to help us colonize the planet. When we can grow plants expressing
human insulin and other hormones which are free of proteins which we develop immunity/intolerance
to.
3. Is genetic engineering a pure scientific process or it is indeed an act of humans playing like God?
It is Genetic Engineering a purse scientific process, why because Firstly it’s engineering. Secondly it’s a
technological process for changing the DNA program in a cell, based on knowledge gained through the
application of the scientific method. ThereThere is no magic involved or indeed miracles, so I guess it’s
not playing God since to do that you’d have to be doing “miracles”. II guess as a theist if you can choose
to view it as playing god or not it’s a rather subjective judgement not really based on any evidence
that there even is a God to play.
Bacteria, also called germs, are microscopic organisms not visible with the naked eye. Bacteria are
everywhere, both inside and outside of your body. Bacteria are single-celled, or simple, organisms.
Though small, bacteria are powerful and complex, and they can survive in extreme conditions.
5. Are you using a product that has bacteria? What it is called?
Yes they called good bacteria, good bacteria have long been used by humans to create food
products such as cheese, yoghurt, pickles, soy sauce and vinegar. We are also able to use bacteria to
break down our sewage and to clean up oil spills.
7. What is a Microorganism?
Microorganisms or microbes are microscopic organisms that exist as unicellular, multicellular, or cell
clusters. Microorganism are widespread in nature and are beneficial to life, but some can cause serious
harm. They can be divided into six major types: bacteria, archaea, fungi, protozoa, algae, and viruses.
For me the impact of GMO in the Philippines production is it could impact food availability by providing
seeds which are resistant to adverse climate conditions; have an effect on food access by increasing
farmers' incomes; and, under the same food utilization conditions, bio-fortified crops could increase the
nutritional status of households worldwide.
Genetic engineering, also called genetic modification or genetic manipulation, is the direct manipulation
of an organism's genes using biotechnology. ... New DNA is obtained by either isolating and copying the
genetic material of interest using recombinant DNA methods or by artificially synthesizing the DNA.
In the future more and more GMOs are being engineered to be “herbicide tolerant.” Genetic
engineering, it seems, creates injurious side effects by mixing genes from totally unrelated species, and
the very process of creating GM food can bring about both toxins and allergens, along with a host of
nutritional deficiencies
Do the Activities below.
1. Agree or Disagree. Discuss the topics below according to your opinions. Group yourselves based on
your
opinions (If you agree or disagree). Within yourself, prepare pointers for your discussion. Write your
stand
Topics:
a. Use of genetically modified milk from animals for human baby consumption
Agree because Some researchers believe that eating GMO foods can contribute to the development of
cancer. They argue that because the disease is caused by mutations in DNA, it is dangerous to introduce
new genes into the body.
2. Research Work. Write an individual research paper on the impacts of GMOs on one of the following
topics:
