1. Block flow diagram, Process flow diagram (process topology, stream information, equipment information),
Piping & Instrumentation diagram

2. Conditions of special concern for the operation of separation and reactor systems, reasons for operating at
conditions of special concern, conditions of special concern for the operation of other equipment, analysis of
important process conditions

3. The role of experience in design process, presentation of tables of technical heuristics and guidelines,
synthesis of PFD from generic BFD; reactor section, separator section

4. Introduction to pinch technology, heat integration and network design, estimation of hot and cold utilities
using composite temperature –enthalpy diagram, estimation of hot and cold utilities using problem table,
design of heat exchanger network that is compatible with maximum energy recovery, stream splitting

5. Analysis of process performance; performance curve for individual unit operation, performance of multiple
unit operation, regulating process conditions

6. Estimation of capital cost; Estimation of purchased equipment cost; estimating total capital cost of plant;
Estimating manufacturing cost, labor, raw material and utilities, yearly cost and stream factors
