1. Briefly discuss the three levels of information in an organization.

 Information systems serve different organizational levels: operational-level systems,


management-level systems, and strategic-level systems.
 Operational-level systems support operational managers by keeping track of the
elementary activities and transactions of the organization, such as sales, receipts, cash
deposits, payroll, credit decisions, and the flow of materials in a factory. The principal

purpose of systems at this level is to answer routine questions and to track the flow of
transactions through the organization.  
  Management-level systems serve the monitoring, controlling, decision-making, and
administrative activities of middle managers. The principal question addressed by such
systems is this: Are things working well? Management-level systems typically provide
periodic reports rather than instant information on operations. An example is a
relocation control system that reports on the total moving, house-hunting, and home
financing costs for employees in all company divisions, noting wherever actual costs
exceed budgets.
  Strategic-level systems help senior management tackle and address strategic issues and
long-term trends, both in the firm and in the external environment. Their principal
concern is matching changes in the external environment with existing organizational
capability.
2. Explain the characteristics of strategic planning information systems.

organizations, and the relationships among them. MIS professionals help firms

realize maximum benefit from investment in personnel, equipment, and business

processes. MIS is a people-oriented field with an emphasis on service through

technology.

 A management information system is made up of five major components namely

people, business processes, data, hardware, and software. All of these

components must work together to achieve business objects.

4. Discuss the function and components of telecommunication.

Components of a telecommunications system are

 Terminals or any input/output devices that send or receive data.

 Communications channels, the links by which data or voice are transmitted between

sending and receiving devices in a network. Communications channels use various

communications media, such as telephone lines, fiber optic cables, coaxial cables, and

wireless transmission.

processors, which provide support functions for data transmission and reception.

 Communications software that controls input and output activities and manages other

functions of the communications network.

Function of telecommunication

 telecommunications system transmits information, establishes the interface between the

sender and the receiver, routes messages along the most efficient paths, performs

elementary processing of the information to ensure that the right message gets to the right

receiver, performs editorial tasks on the data (such as checking for errors and rearranging

the format), and converts messages from one format to another and controls the flow of

information.
