Lab 3: Verfication of Nodal Analysis: EE-103 Electrical Engineering

The document provides details of a lab experiment conducted by EE-103 & ChE-12 A students to verify nodal analysis. It includes: 1) A circuit schematic with two voltage sources, five resistors, and one node (AB) where the nodal analysis equation was applied. 2) Theoretical calculations of node voltage (VA), branch currents (I1-I5), and total current (I) using nodal analysis which match closely with simulated values. 3) A table showing the calculated, simulated, and measured values match closely, verifying the nodal analysis.

Theoretical Analysis

Calculations:
Applying KCL at node AB (Single Node)

(VA-V1) / R4 + VA / R2 + (VA-V2) / R5 + VA / R3 =0

(VA-10) / 5.6 + VA / 1.5 + (VA-5) / 5.6 + VA / 1.5 =0

Multiplying by 5.6

(VA-10) + 3.73 VA + (VA-5) + 3.73 VA =0

9.46 VA= 15

VA= 1.5856 V

For I1
I1= 10/(1.5) (103)

= 6.67 mA

For I2
I2= 1.5856/(1.5) (103)

2
= 1.057 mA

For I3
I3 =1.5856/(1.5) (103)

= 1.057 mA

For I4
I4= (10-1.5856)/(5.6) (103)

= 1.502 mA

For I5
I1= (5-1.5856)/(5.6) (103)

= 0.609 mA

For VAC and VAD

As VAC=VAD

=1.5856 V

For I
I= I1+I4

= 6.76+1.502

= 8.172 mA

Review Questions:
1. How many Nodes are there in Circuit?
There are three nodes in the circuit M, N and AB. A and B is considered the same and
thus a single node.

2. How many Nodes have Known voltage?

Two nodes M and N have known voltages equal to the source voltages (10 and 5 V
respectively).

3. On how many nodes you wrote KCL equations?

KCL equation were written for only node AB (Single node)

4. Do you remember when Nodal analysis becomes unsuitable choice for solving circuits?

5
When there are voltage sources present b/w two or more non refrence nodes then
nodal analysis fails to yield any result. In such cases, the concept of super node must be
applied.
