SMBE4023 Biomedical Signal Processing Group Assignment Biomedical Signal Analysis 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9

This document outlines the steps for a biomedical signal processing group assignment. Students are instructed to: 1) download biomedical signals from Physionet with at least 2 classes to compare, 2) perform suitable digital filtering, 3) convert signals to the frequency or time-frequency domain using methods like wavelets, 4) compare and differentiate features between classes, 5) conduct statistical analysis of features using tests like t-tests or ANOVA, 6) submit a journal-style report in IEEE 2 column format in week 14, and 7) present their findings in week 14. The assignment will be graded based on peer evaluation, quality of the report, presentation, and complexity of analysis.

Biomedical signal analysis

1. Choose and download a set of biomedical signals from here
https://physionet.org/about/database/
2. Choose the signals with at least 2 different classes (same type of signals) to be
compared (example: normal and abnormal)
3. Perform suitable digital filtering to the signal
4. Convert the signals into frequency domain / time frequency / wavelet using any
methods.
5. Compare and differentiate the features between the classes of the signals.
6. Perform a statistical analysis of the features (example t-test, ANOVA)
7. Report must be in journal paper format (IEEE 2 column)
8. Report submission: week 14
9. Presentation: week 14

Marks:
30% - Peer evaluation
50% - Report
20% - Presentation
+10% - complexity
