I am writing a letter of recommendation on behalf of Andrea Swofford, a highly qualified student from
Northern Illinois University. I had the pleasure of working with Andrea as a student teacher this spring at
Oswego East High School in the art department. During her teaching assignment, Andrea was hard working
and maintained a positive approach while working with students, teachers and parents.
Andrea is an extremely motivated person and has a maturity beyond her years. As a teacher, she was easily
able to become an outstanding role model for all of her students. I have no doubt that she will find success
in anything she sets her mind on. In the classroom, Andrea taught a variety of art classes successfully.
Classes include Art Foundation I, Art Foundation II, and Drawing I. In the classroom, Andrea was always
responsible, polite, and determined. In addition to creating lessons, she helped with Eco Club, faculty
meetings, IEP meetings and communicating with parents. Andrea has a lot of dedication and commitment
to her responsibilities at school. She was organized, completes tasks on time, and was always willing to
provide extra time for students. Hence, Andrea would take any teaching assignment seriously and be a
positive reflection on any school district.
Through her warm smile and engaging personality, Andrea has developed an amazing rapport with
students, teachers, and administrators. Beyond the classroom, Andrea volunteered her time to help other art
teachers in the department. She helped paint windows with the National Art Honor Society and gave out art
supplies. In addition, while Andrea was teaching our class schedule changed three times. She was very
adaptable in teaching remotely and then into a hybrid schedule. As a result, Andrea is a well-rounded and
an involved student teacher at Oswego East High School.
Please consider Andrea Swofford, a talented teacher candidate from Northern Illinois University for
consideration at your school district. I am very fortunate and proud to have Andrea as a student teacher in
my classroom. Lastly, integrity and creativity are not easy to come by but describe Andrea’s character.
She is a person of merit that would make your school district proud.
Sincerely,
Laura Cavanaugh
