Activity: Essay on e-Health and the Community Health Nurses’ role in e-Health

In the context of health services availability in the Philippines there are challenges that are
frequently experienced by the Filipinos particularly the high cost of health services, poor accessibility to
health care facilities, and lack of patient information due to unorganized data sortation. The proposed
solution to address the issue in health services availability is the e-Health. Since technology is emerging
and developing in our country. Department of Health envisions to provide e-Health by 2020 making the
health services more accessible to clients who are needing care the most. However, e-Health in the
Philippines is developing given the easy access to the internet, eHealth in the Philippines recently come
into existence and there are things that have to modify and develop to ensure that the care that would be
given to the patients is effective and efficient.  Nonetheless, e-Health is integral to help improve the
communication and responsiveness with health care system, and to provide equitable access to health care
and great opportunity to support other health care initiatives. The role of the nurses has greatly affected
by the innovation brought by the implementation of e-Health in the Philippines since nursing practice
focuses more on the patient care and the administrative part of nursing profession this revolution
challenges the role of the nurses since it does not have actual or face-to-face consultations where proper
assessments and findings occur. The essence of being a nurse in e-Health is kind of like diminished since
this set-up is more of physician and patient interaction. However, nurses are resourceful and flexible
where they can easily adapt to this program.

From my standpoint, this implementation of e-Health makes me have bittersweet emotion having
the reason that nurses’ roles are being challenged yet there is an improvement in our health services
availability.
