1. Shoulder (baseball) Pass

Critical Elements:

Passing
 Allow the ball to rest in your hand with a flexed wrist and your fingers
are spread around the ball
 Step with your opposite foot of your throwing hand
 Transfer your weight forward into the pass
 Follow through with the ball aimed towards the targeted teammate
Receiving
 Look and approach ball
 Receive the ball using one or two hand(s) (based upon skill level)

Task Progression:

Task 1: Partner Pass

In this task, students will pair up and each pair will have a ball. Students will
just pass the ball back and forth using the proper passing technique. I will
have four different cones set up, two cones opposite of one another. Student’s
will began throwing from the first set of cones, that represents a mid-range
distance. They will begin stepping with their non-dominant foot and
throwing with their dominant hand. After they complete five passes, they will
move back to the second cone and began throwing from that distance and
they must also complete five passes from this distance. Once they have
completed ten passes in all they can move on to the next task. This can be a
small warm-up before playing in an actual game.

Task 2: Tips
Students will form a circle with their teammates and they will only need 1
ball for this task. The team captain will start the game off by randomly
tipping the ball, using the tips of their fingers to quickly toss the ball, to any
teammate. This is a quick and challenging game with having to catch and toss
the ball back within 2 seconds to another player. We will do this drill for
about 5 minutes; within that time frame we can encourage the students to
take a couple steps back to make the passes longer as a challenge.

Task 3: 3-man Weave

Students will split their team into groups of 3 and will only need one ball for
the whole team. The student with the ball will begin the drill by throwing the
ball to a teammate running out in front of them, and then they will run
behind that person they threw the ball to and receive it back from the 3 rd
person. I will set out 3 separate cones for each team so they know when to
turn back around and repeat it going back down the court. We will do this
drill for about 5 minutes, as I will encourage the students to pick up the pace
and do tricks as they continuously go through the drill.

Task 4:Passing against defense

Students will be in groups of 3 or 4 and will need 1 ball. There will be an
offense and defense with it being a 1-person advantage on offense. The
offensive players are to move around in certain area to make themselves
open to receive the ball from another teammate. The defensive players are to
defend and stop the offense from getting the ball to another teammate by
deflecting or stealing a pass. When on offense you cannot pass the ball back
to which you received the ball from. The offense and defense will switch
between each other every time the ball is deflected or stolen by the defense.
We do this drill for 5 minutes.

Lead Up Game: 6 passes

Students will play this game as team, with 10 players playing at a time (5 on
5) and using 1 ball for each game. There will be a set boundary for the
students to play in. Students are required to make 6 consecutive passes on
offense before scoring a point for their team. Remember that you cannot pass
the ball back to the person whom you received the ball from and you cannot
move once the ball is in your possession. Once the offensive team scores or
the ball is deflected or stolen by the defense, it becomes the other teams ball
and they will then attempt to make 6 consecutive passes. This game will be
played for 10 minutes. The team with the most points wins the game.

2.
Wrist Pass
Critical Elements:

 Step with the opposite food of your throwing hand to block in your
defender
 Grip the ball with the tips of your fingers
 Aim the ball and follow through with a flexed wrist at your targeted
teammate

Task Progression:

Task 1: Partner Pass

Students will pair up and will need one ball each pair. Students will pass the
ball back and forth using the proper wrist passing technique. Students will
begin stepping with their non-dominant foot and throwing with their
dominant hand, be sure to pretend that you are stepping around a defender.
The students will alternate hands each time they practice throwing the ball
to one another. We will do this drill for 5 minutes.

Task 2: Aim for Wall Target

Students will get with their team and choose a specific spot to target and aim
at on the wall. They will all take turns practicing the correct form to throwing
a wrist pass at the target on the wall. They will do this for 5 minutes or until
each person has hit the target one time using each hand.
n

Task 3:

3. Jump Shot

Critical Elements:

 Jump in the air pushing off your dominant foot

 Rest the ball in your dominant throwing hand
 Release the ball when you reach your highest jumping point while
aiming for the targeted goal area
 Follow through with an extended arm and flexed wrist

Task Progression:

Task 1: Aim for Wall Target

Students will use 2 sheets of paper on the wall (1 paper up high and 1 paper
down low) as aiming targets. The students will form 2 lines within their team
and take turns aiming for one of the targets. There will be cones set out to
represents the goal line. They can start from however far back as needed, but
the students will be allowed to take ONLY 3 steps before attempting a shot
without crossing the goal line before the shot. Students will do this for 5
minutes.
Task 2: Hit the Goal
Students will form one line with the coach standing in the middle between
the goal line and free throw line with a ball. The first person will jog towards
the coach to receive a pass and then while doing the jump shot technique
they will aim the ball in the goal. Be mindful that you cannot go pass the goal
line before attempting the shot. Students will do this for 5-10 minutes.

Task 3: 3-man Weave and Shoot

Students will split their team into groups of 3 and will only need one ball for
the whole team. The student with the ball will begin the drill by throwing the
ball to a teammate running out in front of them, and then they will run
behind that person they threw the ball to and receive it back from the 3 rd
person. Once the group gets a little further down the court, the person closest
to the goal will do a jump shot at the goal and score. Students will do this till
everyone has had at least 1 attempt at scoring a goal.
Task 4: Dribble and Shoot
Students will need 1 ball, 1 tennis ball and a few cones. The students will
dribble through the set of cones alternating hands, when you reach the last
cone you will take 2 steps and then shoot the ball at the tennis ball on top of
the cone. Students will have to make sure they gather themselves before
taking a shot at the tennis ball so they don’t aim off balance and miss
knocking the tennis ball down.

Lead Up Game: Dribble, Dribble, Shoot

Students will form 2 lines with their team. Each team will need 1 cone, 1
tennis ball, and 1 game ball for each line. The students will dribble towards
the cone and shoot the ball at the tennis ball on the cone. The goal is to knock
the tennis ball off of the cone; the first team to have each player hit the tennis
ball off the cone 1 time wins the game.
4. Dribble
Critical Elements:
 Push the ball up the court using 1 hand or alternating hands
 Keep the ball close to avoid opponents stealing the ball
 Always keep your head moving to watch for open teammates and
defenders

Task Progression:

Task 1: Stationary Dribble

Students will need 1 ball and will find an area anywhere on the court where
they want to dribble. They will get into a squatting stance while dribbling and
they will pretend that there is a defender in front of them by flexing their
elbow to block defender from stealing the ball. They will start with their
dominant hand and then switch to their non-dominant hand and then
alternate hands to practice dribbling with both hands. We will do this for 3-4
minutes.

Task 2: Free Dribble

Students will dribble throughout the gym however they would like to
practice their dribbling skills. They will start with their dominant hand and
then switch to their non-dominant hand and then alternate as they move
through the gym. Be mindful to not bump into anyone so no one gets hurt.
We will do this for 5 minutes.
Task 3: Figure 8 Alternate Dribble w/ partner supervision
Students will pair up and form 2 lines of cones. With a partner, each student
will dribble through the cones alternating hands as their partner evaluates
them to make sure they are keeping their head up while dribbling and
alternating hands between the cones. We will do this until every person has
dribbled and been evaluated.

Task 4: Dribble and Defender

Students will pair up again and form 1 line with cones set up in a zigzag
formation. Each pair will have a chance to dribble the ball up the court using
any dribble skill against their defender to prevent them from stealing the
ball. The defender is to play defense depending on how advanced the skills
are of their partner but you also want to make sure you force them to dribble
towards the outside of the court. We will do this until each person has had a
chance to both, dribble and defend.

Lead Up Game: Tricky Dribbling

Students will pick 4 of their best dribblers in their group to play in this game.
Each person will be paired with an opposite team member. The youngest
person goes first. You will need and ball and an about 10 cones. The students
will then create a shape or letter for the opponent to dribble around using
their non-dominant hand, for every cone the opponent knocks over you get a
point for your team overall. Each student will get no more than 20 seconds to
dribble around the shape or letter, if you done complete it then the other
team gets 1 point. We will play this game for 5 minutes.
