Scenario
This assignment is research based; you should extensively use resources such as the Internet, Library
books, Technology Journals, etc.
Assignment Tasks:
1. Research an existing ICT Infrastructure preferably your place of work, if you do not work in the ICT
industry extensive research is required. You are allowed to make assumptions; however, all
assumptions made are to be referenced in the Appendix, Assumptions Made. Introduce the reader
to the selected ICT Infrastructure as described in the assignment below.
2. Carry out an Evaluation and Performance Report of the selected ICT Infrastructure by examining
each network device performance as described in the assignment below.
3. Design a complete new Server Network Infrastructure Design by applying the lessons learned while
completing step 1 and step 2 of the Assessment Template and also the knowledge acquired by
carrying out the practical workshop tasks for this group of subjects.
4. Produce a Server Security Baseline to be applied to all or selected servers in the new / proposed ICT
Infrastructure design.
5. Create the ICT Infrastructure Monitoring Report by discussing how you to plan to monitor the
performance and security of the ICT Infrastructure that you designed in point 3 and 4 of the
Assessment.
6. Create the ICT Infrastructure Support Report by describing all human resources roles required to
maintain and support the ICT Infrastructure and its users.
7. Create Appendix A – Assumptions Made by listing and describing all assumptions made.
8. Create the Bibliography of all referenced material.

Tasks

Task 1 Introduction of the Selected ICT Infrastructure

1. Introduce the reader to the selected company/business and describe its nature of being, i.e. what
does the company do, how it operates, etc.
2. Describe the company’s current ICT Infrastructure, your discussion as minimum should include the
following:
 WAN Connections where multiple sites are involved.
 LAN architecture, including Network Operating Systems deployed
 ICT services deployed, i.e. secure logon, internal/external mail service, Wireless Connections,
SQL servers, Antivirus Server, VOIP, Internet Access, etc.
 List and describe all devices deployed, i.e. router, switches, etc. List and describe the
Workstations deployed, Hardware specifications, operating systems and standard application
software deployed.
Please Note:
• If you are working on a company the you described/discussed in previously submitted
assignments for this course you are allowed to include previously produced information to
complete this section of the project.
• You are allowed to make assumptions providing that all assumptions made are referenced in the
Appendix name, “Assumptions Made”.
• The completeness, quality and relevance of your discussion will determine the assessment of your
research.

Task 2 Evaluation and Performance Report of the Current ICT Infrastructure

In this section you provide an assessment of the current ICT Infrastructure, at this stage you do not need to
propose systems improvements, fixes or modifications. The scope of this section of the project is to
provide an assessment and evaluation of the targeted ICT Infrastructure. Examples of issues to be
discussed are:

1. Are the WAN links and bandwidth adequate for the company needs? Are users reporting that the
system is too slow when accessing websites or resources deployed at remote locations such as
other company’s operational sites?
2. During peak time usage such as early in the morning when users are trying to logon at their
workstations do they experience extensive delays due to high bandwidth usage and/or user
authentication by Domain Controllers
3. Is network storage space adequate for users to save/retrieve their files; or users run out of disk
space frequently?
4. Has the system been brought down by virus infestation and/or other issues that caused the
suspension of services such as Email, Web Access, SQL Databases, etc.?
5. Are all users granted access to the Internet? Are there one or more Firewalls in place to protect the
Network Perimeter?
6. Other

 All ICT Infrastructure devices are to be evaluated; performance of the current system is to be
examined against the suitability of company needs and requirements.

  A complete description/explanation of how the ICT Infrastructure currently performs is to be
determined. The completeness, quality and relevance of your discussion will determine the
assessment of your work.

Task 3 Network Infrastructure Design

In this section you produce a Network Infrastructure that comprises of two or more operational sites
connected together by WAN protocols or VPN application over the Internet. You produce the ICT
Infrastructure Design as follows.
1. Proposed ICT Infrastructure Overview – Produce an overview of the proposed ICT Infrastructure
describing how the network will work and the devices required to produce the required outputs.
2. Network Diagram – Produce a Network Diagram that shows how the two or more operational sites
are connected together. And show how the Routers and Servers deployed are connected at their
respective operational sites.
3. Network Configuration Table – Produce a network configuration table showing the device names, IP
Addresses, Hostnames, Server roles for each deployed servers, IP addresses, Subnet Masks, Default
Gateway and preferred DNS Server.
4. Detailed Network Configuration – Produce a Detailed Network Configuration, here you examine
individually each deployed device explaining what the device does, how it works and why it is
deployed.
Please Note:
 In order to produce this section, you need to review the Practical Workshop documentation
provided, these workshops include samples of the information that is required to produce this
section of the project, for example: Overview of the network design, workshop configuration table,
detailed network configuration, etc.
 The Network Infrastructure that you are proposing must be professionally presented, designed and
explained.

Task 4 Server and Security Baseline
In this section you create a Baseline Server Security that is to be applied to all or selected servers in the
proposed ICT Infrastructure design. The document is to be presented in table form and should include the
following information:
1. Typical Server Hardware Specification
2. Server Operating System
3. Server Roles deployed
4. Server Roles Security Needs
5. User Account Security
6. Password Security
7. File System Security
8. Physical Security
9. Security Options
10. System Services
11. User Rights Assignment
12. Security Auditing
13. Other (such as Advanced Security options)
You need to produce a complete Server Security Baseline that once deployed the company’s servers shall
have increased security without affecting performance levels.
Please Note:
 Review Section 3 of the Workshop 4 document “Creating a Server Security Baseline” and conduct
an in-depth research to produce your own Baseline Server Security.
 The final document that you produce for this section of the assignment is to represent a Server
Security Policy, whereby all servers deployed must comply with the security arrangements provided
by your document.
 A complete description /explanation / recommendation of a Server Security Baseline will determine
the assessment of your work.

Task 5 ICT Infrastructure Monitoring Report

Here you need to tell a story of how the proposed network is to be monitored for performance, for
example:
 you need to address how bottlenecks are managed,
 how threats to the network and data stored on the servers is to be mitigated,
 how active directory replication is monitored,
 list and describe the tools deployed for monitoring the network including hardware and software.
Please Note:
• You should not ignore the theory embedded in the workshop manuals as they contain many examples
and tools to carry out the network monitoring.

Task 6 ICT Infrastructure Support Report
In this section you define the Human Resources roles and skills required to support the ICT Infrastructure
that you designed. You complete this section in a table form describing the IT Support Role, Definition of
the Role, Skills required for the role, Role Reporting, see example below.
