Classroom Management Plan

Philosophy of Management
Developing a classroom management plan is essential to the success of having a good learning
environment for your students. As a future educator, I believe that it is not only my responsibility to teach, but to
help students become exceptional citizens inside and outside of class. I am committed to provide a safe and
engaging classroom for my students and build good relationships with each and every one of them. I will
become familiar with their interests and needs in order to be successful. I also believe a sense of community in
the classroom will encourage students to want to be, and participate in my classroom. I believe that every
student has the ability and want to succeed, and I want to encourage students to have a growth mindset. I also
believe that it is important to be flexible in the way how students learn, as not every student learn the same
way. My ability to be patient and adjust how to approach problems will help me guide the students in the right
direction. I believe students are capable of learning new things and it’s our job as a teacher to get them excited
about what they will be learning.
Another major aspect of classroom management is respect. Each student will be treated equally and
respectfully. Students will be expected to respect their fellow classmates and their teachers as it is the
foundation of having good relationships with others. As a teacher, I want to ensure that my class promotes an
atmosphere that is positive in order to build a community of learners. I want to be able to communicate and
learn about the diverse needs of my students in order to help them with their learning. It’s important to
recognize the different learning styles and differentiate the best of my ability in order to meet each student’s
needs.
First Day of School Procedures:
● Greet students at the door
● Welcome the class and introduce myself
● Building Community
○ Allow time for students to know each other and the teacher
○ Play some Ice-Breaker games
■ Would you Rather
■ 2 Truths 1 Lie
■ Class Survey
■ Find a Friend Game
● Explain the Rules, Procedures and Expectations for the class
○ Procedures for the Start and End of class
○ Entering and leaving the room
○ Where to turn in papers, grab handouts
○ Level of voice when teacher talks
First Day of School Procedures:
● First Day of School Script:
○ Teacher:
■ Welcome class! Hope you had a great summer!
■ My name is Ms./Mr. __________your name here___________, and I’m going to be your ___subject/ teaching
role here________ teacher this year!
■ Take a seat in one of the chairs. (chairs are pre-arranged in a circle).
■ Let’s take turns and go around the room. Please introduce yourself to the class. Tell us your name,
something fun you did this summer and what you hope to learn this year.
■ While people are sharing, please remember to be respectful and listen to what they have to say.
● First Day Agenda:
○ Classroom Procedures
○ Teacher introduction
○ Exit Ticket: quick refresher over what they learned last year. At most 5-10 questions. Students will turn it into
the inbox tray on their way out.
Classroom Environment: Layout 1 My reasoning behind this
classroom structure is that
there are several lanes for
student interaction, as
well as for a smooth path
for the teacher to walk
around the class. Also,
with all students being
directly in front of the
teacher, there may be
more opportunities for
student’s questions, as
well as noticing any
disruption in lecture
(misbehaving, talking,
bullying). This will also be
whiteboard Teacher’s Desk a good arrangement when
testing.
Classroom Environment: Layout 2 (Group Work)
Sample Class Size (20 Students and Teacher)

White board/
Active Board Front table/ Teacher’s desk area

I chose this layout because it allows for students to work independently and also provides an area for group
work. It allows students to work individually and in groups when needed. In addition, it promotes students to
communicate and work collaboratively together. This would also be a great design for a co-teaching
classroom as one teacher could have students on one side of the room, while the other side could be
designated to either a student teacher or a teacher’s aide.

DOOR
Area/ Desk because it is conducive
for speech and debate. It
allows students to work

In addition, the extra
space allows for free
movement around the

Discipline System

● Our goal with the discipline system is not to have a bunch of rules, but to give
students proper consequences to help them learn to regulate their own behavior.

● Disciplines should coordinate with the level of rules broken.

● In class, teacher will used a tiered system of levels

● Rules will include rules the district follows, rules the school mandates and the
classroom rules we have come up with.

● Rules posted by teacher will be limited.

Discipline System
Tiered System:

● Level 1: This is the lowest level of rules broken. For this level, student may receive a
warning from the teacher. Warnings will be verbal, or written. Student has 3 verbal
warnings before moving onto the next level.

○ Ex: Teacher might verbally remind students to put their phone away

● Level 2: This is the second level. An appropriate consequence will be given to the
student in addition to a warning. Student may be eligible for a write up.

○ Ex: Teacher might give them a verbal warning, and take up the student’s phone
for the remainder of the class period.
Discipline System
● Level 3: At this level, students are written up for their misconduct. The teacher gives the proper
warning, and the grade level administrator may be notified about the student’s misconduct. The
student might miss class and have to report to an administrator. A letter/email/ phone call will be
made to the parent informing them of the situation. Teacher and student work together to find an
appropriate solution/ consequence.

○ Ex: Student used phone to cheat on a test.

● Level 4: At this level, the student is written up, and according to the consequence, will be sent to
the administrator's office. Student, teacher and administrator will work together to come up with
an appropriate solution/ consequence. Parent will be notified, (email/ phone call) and student will
be written up. According to school rules, student may receive ISS or after school detention.

○ Ex: Student uses phone to harass another student online during class.
Discipline System

● Level 5: This is the highest offense. At this level, the police or proper administrators
will be involved. Together, the teacher, admin, parent, student and officer will come up
with an appropriate consequence.
○ Ex: Student is using phone to bully or send inappropriate pictures of other
people to various students. At this level, this would be considered a legal case
and would be handled by the school and police.
Discipline System: Classroom Expectations

The Following is a List of Classroom Expectations:

● Enter the classroom by greeting the teacher

● Keep your hands, feet and other objects to yourself at all times
● Work during all work times
● Follow directions immediately
● Follow all lab safety guidelines
● Bring all necessary supplies to class
● Treat everyone with kindness and respect
Culturally Responsive Teaching
● Include a day at the beginning of the year to get to know who your students are, where they
come from, their interests, etc.
○ This will allow for the creation of problems and questions that are tied to what they’re used to, rather
than questions of made up scenarios or those that they’ll never experience in their lives
● To obtain a mutually respectful environment, we have to first make it known that our classroom
is a safe place. If our classroom is not seen as safe by the kids, they will not be willing to share
their personal self in the class; rather, they create a persona
○ This can be set up via the classroom environment where the space itself is safe, or set up in classroom
procedures where we lay out the rules and explicitly state how our classroom will go. Explicitly stating the
rules and procedures will allow the students to know first and foremost what they can and can’t do/say.
● Provide multiple ways to access the same learning material
○ Some students are tactile learnings. Some are auditory, some are visual. We will prepare lessons that not
only include relevance to the students and what happens to them on a daily basis, but also options for the
assignments, and rotate between all the students so that they can experience all three ways of learning
that material.
Culturally Responsive Teaching(cont.)
● Developing a positive sense of self comes from the environment and the community of the
classroom. We will ensure that the classroom is, once again, a safe space by allowing
students the opportunity to have a voice in the class.
○ For vocal students, they can simply talk about what worries them and we can reciprocate

○ For shy students, we will have a box where they can slip in papers with their worries written on them
and only the teacher will have access to these notes.

○ Vocal encouragement and using positive language instead of negative language can also help
promote a positive sense of self

■ Instead of saying “No, you’re wrong,” you could instead say, “You’re almost correct.”

■ Using the students actual name when talking to them will also strengthen the bond between
student and teacher
Classroom Engagement
● Classroom engagement is very important in the classroom because a student should be
engage in the material to be able to learn what the is being taught. The student might get
distracted easily and is the teacher job to always help the student to participate more.

● When the students are engaged , their classroom academy achievement , behavior, overall
grades, their everyday attendance, and their graduation rates are higher than expected. I
believe is very important to always make the student know how their achievement is going
throughout the school year. As, doing posters and doing awards throughout the month can
help the student focus on what they need to improve. Also is very important for the student
to have a good behavior and being rewarded as having a an extra 5 points, school materials,
or even getting a small snack. When a student is engage on the classroom their overall
grades always increase because they are very focused on doing their best.
Classroom Engagement

● Also, is very important for the student to have a everyday attendance because if they don't
show up then they do not learn. Encouraging the student to show up to class can help them
be more engage in their education because absence and tardies just slows down a student.
Furthermore, students that engage in their classrooms have a higher chance of graduating
high school. It is very important for the students to participate in the classroom activities
because they can engage with their peers and the teacher.

● To make my classroom exciting and encouraging I will always pay attention to every student
and encourage them to always participate . There will not be no wrong answer so everyone
has the opportunity to answer any question. I also believe on never leaving a student
behind, so I will always ask question and go over any misunderstoods anyone might have.
