Introduction
Any place having a unique feature can be developed and promoted as a
resort. Resorts in itself is a destination. Tourist Resorts are places which
attract large number of tourists and tourism endows with special
characteristics so that direct and indirect impacts produced by tourism
play a significant role in its existence of development. Kerala is known
for its heritage beauty and its resort architecture.Resort means last
expedient of a person. Expression last expedient has emerged from the
fact that in earlier days, people went to visit holiest cities and other
places in their last phase of life. But nowadays due to increased
availability of leisure and disposable income this concept has changed
and as a result various types of resorts have come into existence. Thus,
in this Unit you will be reading not only about the typology of resorts
but also it’s designing and planning while preserving its natural
attractions as its USP. Moreover, the misconception that resorts are
meant for rich and famous does not hold ground any more. It has been
removed with the use of extensive publicity.
None less than the National Geographic Traveler have acclaimed Kerala
as
one of the must-see paradises of the world. This narrow strip of land,
blessed with abundant greenery, is situated between the Arabian Sea
and the Western Ghats. With innumerable attractions on hand - serene
backwaters, beckoning hill stations, pristine beaches, exotic wildlife,
colourful festivals, magical Ayurveda, amazing heritage, tantalising
cuisine…you name it, Kerala has it. For administrative reasons, Kerala is
divided into fourteen districts, each of them boasting its own unique
bouquet of tourism products
BACKWATER CRUISES
Since Kumarakom is a water-locked land, cruise routes abound. You can
choose between lunch cruises, backwater cruises or overnight stays. For
the
latter, you can stay in a traditional riceboat converted into a houseboat.
You
could also experience a day cruise through the emerald green
backwaters of
Alleppey, the Venice of the East. Capture the grandeur of the setting
sun.
Watch shrimp farming done the traditional way. And take home
beautiful
memories.
FARM TOURS
Visit a farm below sea level. Watch underwater cultivation. Incidentally,
this
is the only place other than the Netherlands, where this is practiced.
The
land is protected by the coconut trees that surround it. As fertile soil is
deposited by the many rivers that empty into the Vembanad Lake, this
is an
ideal cultivation ground. A variety of coconuts, fresh vegetables,
bananas,
herbs etc. flourish here.
THE MURALS
The temple walls in Kerala are usually covered by murals many
centuries old.
Typically, they depict important scenes from Hindu mythology. These
murals are known for their fine detailing and use of natural colour. Get
an
opportunity to view paintings from the 16th century onwards.
Kumarakom
Lake Resort has also recreated these murals on your villa walls.
