I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:

officiating official.
 
II. Subject Matter
Content : Sports Officiating
Content Standards : Demonstrates understanding of lifestyle and weight
management to promote community fitness.

Performance Standards : 1. Maintains an active lifestyle to influence the


physical activity participation of the community.

active lifestyle.
Learning Competencies : Officiates pratice and competitive games.

III. Procedures:

A. Preliminaries
- Prayer

C. Developmental Activities

ACTIVITY
The class will watch a video presentation about Sports Officiating in Basketball.

ANALYSIS
The following questions will be asked:
1. What was the video all about?
2. What have you notice about the scenario of the game?
3. What do you think is our lesson for today?
ABSTRACTION
The teacher will employ discovery learning, hands-on learning and inductive teaching
methods. (Indicator Nos.1, 2 & 3)

Sports Officiating
- is a system of managing a sports, specifically on implementing the game rules
and keeping order in the duration of the game.
Officiating Official (Referee)
- an official who watches a game or match closely to ensure that the rules are
followed to and to determine on matters arising from the play.
Activity (Instruction)
The class will be divided into four groups. Each group will select one leader and
secretary. Leaders of each group will be given task envelope with assigned topic to discuss in
every group. After the allotted time, each group will select speaker/s to discuss their topic in
front of the class and answer the guided questions;
1. What is a (physical, emotional, mental & social) quality?
2. As an officiating official, why is it important to possess these qualities?

Qualities of an Officiating Official


1. Physical Qualities – refer to the physical attributes of an officiating official.
Since an officiating official needs to catch up with every detail of what the
athletes or players do on court, he needs to have high level of fitness to be able to
perform his job.
2. Emotional Qualities – refer to the emotional readiness of an officiating official
to perform his/her role in a game. He/She might have mastered all the rules and
possesses a high level of fitness but if the emotional attributes don’t warrant
him/her to perform the duties and responsibilities of an officiating official, failure
is expected. Emotional attributes includes confidence. It is having belief in
oneself and it can be develop and improve.
3. Mental Qualities – refer to one’s mental preparations in officiating a game. Just
as physical and emotional, mental characteristics are also equally necessary. It
requires one to stay focused, regulate one’s performance, ability to handle
pressure, awareness and control of thoughts and feelings and one’s command.

4. Social Qualities – refer to the ability to deal with others at any given situations. It
is the ability of an officiating official to settle disputes without sacrificing the
integrity of a game and the officiating team. Surrounding oneself with people
who make wise decisions especially in officiating endeavors might help one
improve his/her decision-making skills.
Hand Signals
- gestures used by sports officials to communicate to the players and audiences
specifically game related events like fouls, points, and the likes.
APPLICATION
(Indicator No. 6)
For the mastery of correct hand signals of referee in basketball, students will be presenting
varied performances. Ahead of time, they were grouped according to their inclination. Groups are
as follows, Logical-Mathematical Intelligence, Linguistic Intelligence, Musical Intelligence and
Bodily-Kinesthetic Intelligence. The task of the Logical-Mathematical Intelligence is to solve the
given problem. While the Linguistic Intelligence, Musical and Bodily-Kinesthetic Intelligence
will be working together in composing a song related to hand signals, putting a tune to a created
piece and execute the hand signals as a dance step.
IV. Evaluation
(Indicator No. 1&3)
I. Valuing the topic through real life application.
In relation to Science, a video clip regarding the importance and benefits of physical activities
will be played and the following questions will be asked.
1.) In the video that you have watched, identify the benefits of physical activities in our body.
2.) Other than the samples presented, can anyone cite other example of physical activity in
our daily life?
3.) How important is physical activities to develop the qualities of an effective officiating
official.
