B. Uraian Materi

1. Definition of News Item


News item text is a text which informs readers about events are considered
newsworthy or important.

2. Purpose of News Item


News Item Text is used to inform readers about events of the day which are
considered newsworthy or important.

3. Generic Structure of News Item


• Main Events / Newsworthy event(s): it recounts the event in summary form.
• Elaboration / Background event(s): they elaborate what happened, to whom,
in what circumstance
• Resource of Information (Source) : it contains comments by participants in,
witnesses to and authorities expert on the event

4. Language Feature of News Item


• Focusing on circumstances (using a simple language in writing the text)
• Using saying verbs: “….”, She said, informed, told, reported.
• Sometimes at the beginning of news, the scene is mentioned : Jakarta – … .. /
London-/Bogor-
• Using Past tense in explaining news events. But if it is a fact that until now
still happen or still in the form of fact, then can use simple present tense.
• Short, telegraphic information about story captured in headline
• Using adverbs: time, place and manner.
• Uses of material processes to retell the event

Eight people in Gresik regency, East Java, were ordered by local authorities to dig graves for
those who have died of COVID-19 as punishment for not wearing face masks in public. Cerme
district head, Suyono, said that he punished residents who did not wear face masks by making
them dig graves at a public cemetery in Ngabetan village.
“There are only three available gravediggers at the moment, so I thought I might as well put
these people to work with them,” said Suyono as quoted by tribunnews.com on Wednesday,
adding that local authorities made sure the health protocol violators did not participate in the
burials. To assist the gravediggers, Suyono assigned two people to each grave. One is tasked
with digging the grave, while the other lays wooden boards inside the hole to support the
corpse. “Hopefully this can create a deterrent effect against violations,” Suyono said.
He also said the number of COVID-19 cases was continuing to increase in Cerme, prompting
the village administration to strengthen protocols in the village. Based on the Regent Law No.
22/2020, residents who violate the protocols are subject to fines or community service as
punishment. Separately, Cerme Police chief Adj. Pol. Comm. Moh. Nur Amin said the police
would cooperate with the military to enforce the protocols, such as by dispersing public
gatherings. “We urge the public to wear face masks in accordance with the COVID-19 health

Remember how to understand news :


• What's happening? It is about a person, a thing, or an event
• Who is involved? People who get involved as a doer/doers, as a witness/ess .
• Where is this happening? The place
• When is it happening? The day and date
• Why is it happening? It is about a process, a reason, cause and effect.

REMEMBER

Headlines often use a NOUN PHRASE, that is, a phrase without a verb:

There are also some VERB CHANGES. The simple tenses are preferred to continuous
or perfect forms and auxiliary verbs are dropped in the passive:

The INFINITIVE TENSE is used to talk about the future:
President to Open New Art Gallery
New Player to be hired by NBA

memberikan saran jika sesuatu terjadi.

Procedure Text is a piece of text that give


us instruction for doing something.

Example

How to Cook Rice In A Rice Cooker

First, rinse a cup of rice in cold water. Rub the rice softly under the running water. Do
not rub the rice too long, because it will lose the nutrients. Wash the rice once again.
Then drain the water from the rice. Next, add a cup of water. If ou cook rice using an
electronic rice cooker, pay attention to the water ratio. The rice and the water ratio is
usually 1 part rice to 1 part water. Then, place the cooking pot in the rice cooker
properly. Cover the pot. Select the cooking button right after the light on the rice cook
cook turns. Finally, when the rice has been cooked and is resilent , flip through the
rice very gently using a rice spatula.

How to Use A Blender


1. Prepare the ingredients that you want to mix. The ingredients can be vary, but
mostly people use blender for these following things: Ice, vegetables, fruits, milk,
or any kind of food and drinks.
2. Cut the ingredients into smaller pieces if the ingredients were solid and big.
3. Prepare the blender cup, make sure to clean it before we use it and put the
blender blades on the bottom of the cup.
4. Place the blender cup on the blender machine.
5. Insert the plug into the electricity socket.
6. Put all of the ingredients into the blender cup.
7. Add some water to help the blender mix the ingredients evenly.
8. Close the lid and cover the blender cup tightly.
9. Start the blender by pressing the speed button, you can start from the medium
speed.
10. Wait until we get the right texture of the mixture, we can adjust the speed and also
add some more water if necessary.

MATERI : Imperative Sentences

A. Tujuan Pembelajaran
Setelah kegiatan pembelajaran 6 ini diharapkan kalian diharapkan mampu Menggunakan
kalimat imperative dan menggunakan connetives dalam tense yang benar.

B. URAIAN MATERI
1. Imperative
Imperative sentence merupakan kalimat yang digunakan untuk membuat perintah
(command), permintaan (request), atau petunjuk (instruction). Imperative sentence
pada umumnya diakhiri oleh exclamation namun bisa juga diakhiri oleh titik. Dalam
teks prosedur imperative sentence yang biasa digunakan adalah yang berfungsi sebagai
instruction (instruksi) dan command (perintah). Ada juga negative imperative yang
berfungsi untuk menunjukkan bahwa kita tidak diizinkan melakukan sesuatu. Coba
Kalian perhatikan beberapa contoh imperative sentence di bawah ini.

2. Must and Mustn’t


Must digunakan untuk menyatakan bahwa kita harus melakukan hal penting e.g. :

3. Sentence Connectors for Telling Actions in Order.


Conectors digunakan untuk menggabungkan kelompok kata baik phrase maupun
kalimat. Kalian bisa menggunakan connctors ini untuk menghubungkan paragraf agar
koheren. Sentence connectors biasanya ditulis di awal kalimat.

untuk menunjukan urutan suatu instruksi atau tahapan bagaimana melakukan
tindakan.

4. Adverbs
Adverb merupakan kata yang menerangkan kata kerja, kata sifat ataupun adverb
lainnya. Sebuah adverb biasanya terdiri atas adjective + ly seperti slowly, suddenly,
strongly.
