What is 21 st century? It is a generation where rapid development of technologies
occurs. This leads to the rise of digital technologies where it becomes a part of human’s life.
It is ubiquitous because it can be found anywhere now (Samuel et al., 2017). How is it
related to assessment instruments? Technology is one of the 21 st Century Skills and it
requires compatible assessment alternatives to evaluate learner’s learning and progress
(Cachia et al., 2010). The statements above are linked to this task, which is to assess the
effectiveness of the digital graphic organiser with the aids of assessment instruments.
Based on Kelvin’s digital organic presentation, there are a few strengths. One of the
strengths is the organisation of the information. The information is presented in a systematic
manner. The points for one main point are listed out orderly. The flows of information from
one point to another point is very smooth. It is easy to be understood and read. For instance,
the presentation started with definition of classroom management and behaviour afterwards
proceed to the behaviour issues etc. This is an example of deductive approach, from general
to specific information (Wilson, 2016). This is crucial so that the readers can comprehend
and understand the presentation from the beginning until the ending. This also develops
readers’ deductive reasoning skill.
Other than that, another weakness is the conciseness of the contents. The content of
the presentation is wordy (Smith, 2019). Some explanations can be shortened to increase
the conciseness of the points. An example is making sure the layout of the classroom helps
students and teacher to move without restriction. This explanation is too wordy and can be
shortened into the classroom’s layout doesn’t hinder movements of teachers and students.
Wordy presentation is time-consuming and causes loss of interests towards the audience.
This will affect audience’s impression towards the presentation.
Last but not least, the instructional design that is related to this presentation is
ASSURE model. ASSURE is an acronym which stands for A- Analyse learners, S- State
objectives, S- Select methods, media and materials, U- Utilise media, materials, R- Require
learner participation, E- Evaluate & revise. Analyse learners is focusing on analysing the
audience’s background details such as the demographics etc. State objectives stage is
where the process of identifying the goals like what the students will be able to learn through
the course. Select methods, media and materials is where the selection of suitable and
effective materials occurred. Utilise media and materials is where the application of materials
chosen into the suitable platform. Require learner participation refers to the ways to involve
students’ participation in the Teaching & Learning session (T&L), Evaluate and revise is the
process of assessing the effectiveness of the T&L implemented. Kelvin’s presentation is
focusing to share information to classmates, me and lecturer (Audience). The main objective
of this presentation is to inform the audience by addressing behaviour issues, interventions
and what is classroom management. The selected materials are graphic organisers (Lotus
diagram etc), suitable backgrounds, pictures etc. The presentation is presented digitally and
the materials used are integrated with digital application to produce digital graphic organiser.
Learner’s participation can be seen through the discussion of strengths and weaknesses of
the presentation etc in written form. The evaluation is based on the rubrics given and the
identification of the strengths and weaknesses of the presentation.
In conclusion, the strengths and weaknesses highlighted above are the assessment
towards the effectiveness of the media presented. This is crucial for the improvisations and
betterment of the future digital graphic organiser.
