1. In the table below, explain the function (in your own words) of each part of the eye.
Part of the Eye Its Function (in your own words)
Pupil Regulates the light in the back of your eye
Cornea Helps clearly see objects or people
Aqueous Feeds the cornea and lens
Humor
Iris The amount of light that can get in your eye
Lens It folds so that the light can face toward the retina
Vitreous Transfer light waves
Humor
Retina Electrical signals that go to the optic nerve of the brain
Optic Disc Optic nerve enters from the optic disc
Optic Nerve Help decide what we’re looking at
Fovea Help us understand writing and drive
Sclera The white part around your eye
2. Explain in your own words, the three steps of how the eye works.
a. Step 1: light enter cornea and goes through pupil
b. Step 2: lens bends light onto retina that creates upside down image
c. Step 3:once it reaches a point in the retina gives a signal that flips the image so
we can tell what it is
3. Click on “Sight Tools” and then “Eye and Vision Problems.” Read about the
different types of eye conditions, look at the images, and then briefly explain
what the condition is and what you see in the chart below.
Eye Condition What is the condition? What Do You “See”
Myopia Nearsightedness, where people can see The further you get the
things close but not far away more blurry it becomes
Hyperopia Farsightedness, people can see objects far What’s in front is blurry
away instead of up close and the background is
clear
Astigmatism Misshapen cornea/lens Nothing focuses
Presbyopia Not being able to focus on light Images are blurry
Cataracts Blockage in lens Image is white
Color Cones do not function Loss of color
Blindness
Strabismus Muscle stop working eyes are facing 2 individual
points
Glaucoma Condition in optic nerve Outer portion of image is
dark where the inner part
is white
Macular Macular deteriorates Large spot in image
Degeneration
