1.0 INTRODUCTION
According to Ng (2010), states “the calculation of the nutrient composition of foods and
meals is of paramount importance in teaching, research and meal planning. However, work in
this area is often hampered by the lack of an updated food composition database as well as a
suitable, user-friendly, low-cost calculator of nutrient intakes. Hence, there is an urgent need for
the Malaysian food composition database to be updated as well as a rapid nutrient calculator
which is low-cost and allows for flexible use by the layman, the student, and the teacher”.
Based on Malaysian Food Composition Database, there are 2 types of nutrients which are
mandatory nutrients and optional nutrients. There are 29 mandatory nutrients which are:
 Energy
 Water

5. COMPARISON BETWEEN THESE TWO METHODS BASED ON:

We have carried out calculations on nutrients value in our food intake for the past 24 hours
based on ‘Nutrient Composition of Malaysian Foods’ and an application called ‘Nutrition
Value’. Both of these methods gave us the value of our intake nutrients. However, there are some
differences between these both methods that we can discuss which are based on the food weight
and also the nutrient content.

Our food intake have been weight from the previous lab and we need to find our nutrients
intake by using these both methods. By using ‘Nutrient Composition of Malaysian Foods’ book,
we need do bunch of calculation for each food that we consumed, if and only if, the weight of
our food that we ate did not have the same weight as what been stated in the book. We need to
manually calculate the food intake weight. On the other hand, by using the ‘Nutrition Value’
application, we just need to input the food weight and the system will calculate for us. We can
choose to either make the serving weight as 100g per meal or customize our own meal weight
per serving. It made our process in calculating more easier and we can finished our calculation
faster.

Other than that, the nutrient content in both methods also differ as the book only show us a
few nutrients content while in the application, we can get more information about our food intake
nutrients and also the precise value.
6. Example of Nutrient Applications

Foodvisor – Calorie Counter

This app can let us to take picture of what we eat. It will scan the photo and recognize the food
that we eat. After that, it will show the total amount calories, proteins, fats, carbohydrates and
other nutrients that the foods contain. User can get some advice from the apps about the food
diet.

Lifesum – Diet & food diary

This app provide user many recipes of food user can cook at their home. They also provide all of
the nutrient composition contained in the food. User can choose what recipe and follow the
cooking step of the healthy recipe. Next, user also can scan the barcode of the food such as
biscuit or chocolate that they buy and the app will list down the nutrient composition of the food.
Calorie calculator

This app allow user to search type of foods and the app will show the nutrient composition of the
food user chose. The app has lists of food from every source and user also can choose the
amount of serving.

Nutrition facts

This app also has lists of food and the nutrients compostions. This app also has lists of
macronutrients such as vitamins, minerals and the examples of food that contain such
macronutrient.
7. Contribution information technology in nutrition

Technology for nowadays bring a lot of benefits in a daily routine. It also brings benefits
to nutrition field to enable to make a researchers and methods using a modern way. It is the most
popular technology to date. Website use is the highest search medium in detecting the halal
status of a product. Based on search hits on the search engine by simply typing "halal status" the
user will be linked to the halal directory either locally or abroad.

Next, contribution information technology in nutrition is needed as a process of

information flow, dissemination, processing and storage using technology transmission or as a
form of facilitator that enables the flow of information faster especially when produce a food that
related with food.

Food processing technology is the use of science to produce, process, and manage raw
food that is durable and safe to eat. Various methods of food processing have been developed to
maintain the freshness and natural taste of food. The purpose of food processing is to kill
microorganisms that occur in food are killed to prevent the growth of microorganisms and
parasites to ensure food is safe to eat.

Last but not least, the most of contribution information technology for the nutrition
industry lies in improving motivation. We know already that motivation is behind every action,
every choice and every effort we make every day for improving our life and ourselves. If want to
be motivated, to believe in themselves and in their capacity to lose those extra pounds or gain
that extra muscle, to finally learn to eat healthier without succumbing to the temptation of eating
junk foods.

8. CONCLUSION

In conclusion, having a good nutrition is the best way to prevent from disease in
order to live in a healthy way. Nutrition problem can occur when a person did not take
serious on their diet such as by taking a lot of calories based on their height and weight.
Many of them just enjoying their days as they are lot of delicious food that can blow their
mind. But the fact is, the food contained a lot of fats instead of carbohydrate and protein
(based on food pyramid). It will disturb our nutrition and it will bring consequences on
the individual.
