TOPIC 1: Getting started with Microsoft Teams

Online learning aims to be a learning community with a robust educational ecosystem, while
Emergency Remote Teaching (ERT)’s aims to provide temporary access to instruction that is
available during an emergency or crisis.

Synchronous learning refers to interaction or learning that happens together in real time, while
Asynchronous Learning refers to interactions don’t have to happen at the same time.

In this Microsoft Teams interface, you can meet, chat, call, and collaborate with everyone you
work with.

The navigation bar is where you’ll see notifications about your recent activity, chats, teams,
meetings, files, and apps.

A team is a collection of people, content, and tools based on a specific project or group.

Join an existing team with a code given by the team owner. Or create your own team by clicking
Create Team.

Team Types:

1. Class Team: for teachers and students to collaborate on group projects, assignments,
and more
2. Professional Learning Community (PLC): for educators in a working group (academic
or subject department, grade level department), or any group working on a shared goal
3. Staff Team: for staff leaders and staff members to collaborate on school administration
and development
4. Other Team: for students and school employees to collaborate in interest groups and
clubs

Choose a team type (Class, Staff, Professional Learning Community (PLC), or Others), then
type the name and description of your Team. Or create a team using an existing team as a
template.

Enter your students', co-teachers' or members' names or email addresses, then click Add. Click
Close when you're done adding members to your team.

To access the team’s settings, click the Three Dots or More Options next to the team name.

Channels can be created for group work, topics, units, and more to organize all the files,
conversations, and apps for a topic in one place.
Every team comes with a General channel. In a Class Team, the General channel contains the
Posts, Files, Class Notebook, Assignments, and Grades tab. You can add a tab to any channel by
clicking the plus sign.

even stickers.

Posting an announcement: Post an announcement to your students using the post

announcement feature in your conversation tab

3. A record of the conversation can be found in the Posts tab of the channel.

Small Groups via Private Channels

1. Create private channels (breakout rooms) to conduct small group teaching.

through chats and messages.

Individualized sessions through scheduled calls

1. For record keeping, you could create a channel where your students could request a
one-to-one coaching session.
2. Create a meeting invite by clicking the Calendar icon. An email will be sent to your
student regarding the meeting.
3. If you included a specific channel in the meeting invite, the details will be posted in the
channel's post box for everybody to see.
