EXPLANATION:
Procedure text is a text that explain or help us on how to make or use something.
The social function of this text is to tell how something is accomplished through a sequence of
actions or steps.
The structure of the text is as follow:
1. Goals / Purpose: The purpose in making / doing something
2. Materials / Tools: The materials that are used in making / doing something
3. Steps / Method: Sequence of steps in making / doing something
To compose procedure text, you will need the use of:
1. Present Tense (imperatives & action verbs)
Examples: Crack an egg into a bowl (the bold word is action verb)
Draw a smaller circle on coloured paper (the bold word is imperative)
2. Adjectives to form a noun phrase
Examples: A small circle, fresh chilli, etc.
3. Numbers to show the sequence
Examples: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, etc
First, second, third, etc
4. Transition words
Examples: First of all, for the time being, afterward, soon, etc

CAN YOU GROW YOUR OWN FOOD IN A JAR?
In many countries, people eat a lot of beans and seeds. Here is an example. Do you eat any
of those in your country?
The Chinese make bean-sprout from the mung bean.
This is how you can grow your own food in a jar.
1. Choose a bean or seed, for example; the mung or adzuki bean or the sun flower seed.
2. Put 75 grams of the beans of the seeds in a bowl.
3. Cover them in water for 12 hours.
4. Pour out all the water.
5. Put the beans or seeds into a large jar. This must be cleaned.
6. Put a thin piece of clothover the top of the jar. Hold the cloth in place with an elastic
band.
7. Put the jar on its side in a warm, dark place. You must not put the jar in sunlight.
8. Pour a cup of cold water carefully through the cloth into the beans and seeds twice a day

TROPICAL FRUIT BOWL
Hi, friends! I am sure you often use bowls. Now, you can make one yourself from fruits. We
name it tropical fruit bowl. You need a newspaper, an old bowl, glue and a brush, cooking oil and
different coloured paint to do this activity.
Now, here is to make it. First, make rough fruit shapes from scrunched-up newspaper. Water
down the glue and paste five layers of newspaper over the shapes. Leave them in a warm airy spot
to dry. Then, brush the outside of the bowl with the oil. Finish? Now, glue six layers of newspaper
strips to the bowl to make a strong mold. Let this dry overnight. Once the fruit shapes are dry,
paint them in realistic colours. Separate your dried newspaper mold from the old bowl. Are you
done? Okay, Decorate the mold in bright tropical colours. When the paint is dry, add your fruit
shapes. See, your bowl is nice, isn’t it?

TAKING FINGERPRINTS
Whenever you touch something, you leave slightly oily fingerprints behind. If these fingerprints
are on a shiny surface, they will show up when you cover them with fine powder. In this
axperiment, you make carbon powder and then use it to take a friend’s fingerprints.
Here is what you should do:
Toast a piece of bread until it turns black around the edges. Remember, don’t let the toast
catch fire. The heat in the toaster will make the bread change into carbon.
scrape the carbon off the toast into a bowl. Then, crush it with the back of a spoon to make a
very fine powder.
Ask a friend to run her fingers through her hair. Then ask her to press her fingertips for on
white plastic bag.
Sprinkle carbon powder onto the fingerprints. Shake the excess powder off the bag and cover
the prints with sticky tape. Your friend’s fingerprints will show up after you cover them with the
fine powder.

HOW TO TAKE YOUR PULSE
You will need a timer or watch with a second hand.
