SOP For Testing Transformer

The document provides standard operating procedures for testing the insulation resistance value, winding resistance, and ratio of a transformer. The procedures involve measuring insulation resistance at different voltages, injecting current to measure winding resistance of the high voltage and low voltage sides, connecting leads to measure the ratio and ensure it matches calculated values, and injecting power to measure transformer losses and power factor.

SOP for Testing IR Value,Winding Resistance, Ratio test of a Transformer :-

Test Procedure
1. Avail LC on concern Transformers.
2. Transformer breaker at HT/LT end has been isolated.
3. Discharging / Earthing has been done at both HV/LV end.
4. LV side PT fuse kept in open condition.

Insulation Resistance measuring using Megger:

1. Using Megger instrument IR Value has to be measured at HV – (LV+E) by applying 5000v.
2. Using Megger instrument IR Value has to be measured at HV – LV by applying 5000v.
3. Using Megger instrument IR Value has to be measured at HV – LV by applying 500v.

Measuring Winding resistance of HV & LV side :-

1. Connect the Voltage/Current terminal leads of the kit to transformer HT Side. Temperature to be
noted from scanner device.
2. Using Kit Voltage & current has been injected. Resistance range has been selected as 20ohm for
HV side. Tap number has to be noted.
3. Connect the Voltage/Current terminal leads of the kit to transformer LV Side.
4. Using Kit Voltage & current has been injected. Resistance range has been selected as 2mohm for
LV side. Tap number has to be noted.

Ratio Measurement :-
1. Connect the kit Terminal leads to LV side terminals of transformer.
2. Enter all parameters of the transformers such as KVA / Tap position / Voltage Ratings of Primary
secondary / Vector Group / Calculated ratio etc.
3. Calculated ratio Formula :- HV / ( LV line voltage).
4. Inject Voltage to all the 3 Phases. Check the Ratio values which has to be similar to our calculated
Value. Excitation current value has to be noted.
5. Phase angle deviation to be noted.
6. Error percentage value must be less than 0.5%.

Transformer loss calculation using Power Quality analyser :-

1. Connect the kit Voltage / current Terminal leads to LV side terminals of transformer.
2. 415V has been injected at the Transformer LV side.
3. So that power loss / Power Factor of the transformer noted from the kit. Waveforms of voltage &
current to be checked & also values to be noted.
