HyperNode  KVM
-‐  White  paper  -‐

1.  Overview

1.1  Device  overview

The   HyperNode   KVM   is   the   backbone   of   the   HyperManage   management   network.   Serving   as   the   main
connectivity   and   communication   entity,   it   makes   all   manageable   devices   always   reachable   through   their
normal  connection  path  or,  in  case  of  network  breakdown,  through  an  optional  3G  USB  modem  driven  by
the  HyperNode  KVM  itself.

Once  connected  to  the  management  network,  the  managed  device  can  communicate  using  the   HyperNode
KVM's  multi-‐protocol  capability.  Depending  on  the  version  and  the  necessity,  the  HyperNode  KVM  can  act
as  a  TCP/IP  gateway,  as  an  acquisition  device,  as  a  KVM  controller  or  as  a  programmable  switch.

At   the   same   time,   relying   on   its   hardware-‐coded   private   key,   the   HyperNode   KVM   represents   the
cornerstone   of   the   management   network   security,   guaranteeing   that   access   to   the   manageable   device   is
available   only   to   authorized   users   and   applications   and   making   it   impossible   for   anyone   to   hack   into   the
HyperManage  server.

1.2  Features
HyperNode   KVM   is   a   multi-‐purpose   and   multi-‐interface   device,     made   up   to   handle   as   many   remote
management  issues  as  possible.

• Remote  KVM  with  DVI-‐I  (analog  and  digital)  interface

• Supports  USB  and  PS/2  Keyboard  and  mouse  connection  to  the  server

2.3  Front  panel

FIGURE  1.  THE  FRONT  PANEL

The  front  panel  carries  the  following  connectors:

• DVI-‐I  female  :  this  optional  connection  can  be  used  to  connect  a  local  Video  for  onsite  monitoring,
by  mirroring  the  local  video  source  (VGA,  DVI,  or  both).  This  interface  can  be  disabled  remotely  by
the   remote   user,   in   order   to   provide   additional   security   and   privacy.   VGA   monitors   can   be
connected  using  specifics  adaptors.

• RJ-‐9  female  :  Bus  interface  to  connect  with  remote  probes  and  power  control  devices.  Supports  up
to  127  devices  in  a  total  length  of  1000  meters.

• USB-‐A   female   :   Used   to   connect   an   optional   USB   3G   thumb   key.   The   key   must   be   specifically
supported  by  the  model  unit.

• RJ-‐45  female  :  WAN  connection  (10/100/1000  Mbit/sec)  used  as  connection  to  the  central  server.  It
is  connected  to  an  internal  gigabit  switch  and  can  be  used  as  a  passthrough  LAN  connection.

Between  the  DVI-‐I  connector  and  the  RJ-‐9  connector  two  leds  are  present:

2.4  Back  panel

FIGURE  2.  THE  BACK  PANEL  CONNECTIONS

The  back  panel  carries  the  following  connector,  from  left  to  right:

• RJ-‐45   female   :   LAN   connection   (10/100/1000   Mbit/sec)   to   connect   the   server   on   passthrough
connection.   LAN   and   WAN   connectors   can   be   used   to   save   one   switch   port   when   controlling   the
server.

• A  cord  with  a  DVI-‐I  male  connector  and  two  USB-‐A  male  plugs  :  used  to  connect  to  Video  (DVI-‐I),

3.  Installation  and  use

Place  the  HyperNode  KVM  in  a  stable  position.  In  order  to  do  this  follow  safety  guidelines  in  chapter  4.1.

The  HyperNode  KVM  is  powered  by  a  DC  power  supplier,  set  the  power  supplier's  voltage    selector  to  12V
and  then  connect  the  DC  power  supplier  to  the  HyperNode  KVM.

Connect   all   the   cables   to   the   proper   connectors   in   the   back   panel,   as   required   by   your   application   and
finally  connect  the  DC  power  supplier  to  the  current  mains.

See  the  “HyperNode  KVM  Software  Guide”  manual  in  order  to  execute  the  software  install  procedure  and
setup  the  device  for  the  required  application.

4.  Safety  and  disposal

4.1  Safety  guidelines
HyperNode  KVM  is  a  home/office  device,  use  it  safely.

The  manufacturer  is  not  responsible  for  any  malfunction  or  anomaly  caused  by  any  connection  that  doesn't
meet  the  specifications  reported  in  this  guide.

The   only   way   to   shut   off   power   completely   to   your   HyperNode   KVM   is   to   disconnect   it     from   the   power
source.

HyperNode  KVM  should  not  be  opened  for  any  reason,  even  when  HyperNode  KVM  is  unplugged.  Should
HyperNode  KVM  be  malfunctioning  contact  the  seller  or  the  manufacturer.

Never   force   a   connector   into   the   ports.   If   the   connector   and   port   do   not   join   with   reasonable   ease,   they
probably   don’t   match.   Make   sure   that   the   connector   matches   the   port   and   that   you   have   positioned   the
connector  correctly  in  relation  to  the  port.

Keep   HyperNode   KVM   away   from   sources   of   liquids,   such   as   drinks,   washbasins,   bathtubs,   shower   stalls,
and  so  on.

Protect  HyperNode  KVM  from  direct  sunlight  and  rain  or  other  moisture.

Take  care  not  to  spill  any  food  or  liquid  on  the  device.  If  you  do,  unplug  HyperNode  KVM  before  cleaning  up
the  spill.

Do  not  use  HyperNode  KVM  outdoors.

Do  not  make  repairs  yourself.

HyperNode   KVM   may   be   damaged   by   improper   storage   or   handling.   Be   careful   not   to   drop   HyperNode
KVM  when  transporting  the  device.

To  reduce  the  chance  of  shock  or  injury,  do  not  use  HyperNode  KVM  in  or  near  water  or  wet  locations.

Do  not  attempt  to  open  HyperNode  KVM  or  disassemble  it.  You  run  the  risk  of  electric  shock  and  voiding
the  limited  warranty.  No  user-‐serviceable  parts  are  inside.

4.2  Disposal  and  recycling  informations

HyperNode   KVM   has   a   NiMH   internal   battery.   Please   dispose   of   it   according   to   your   local   environmental
laws  and  guidelines.

When   this   product   reaches   its   end   of   life,   take   it   to   a   collection   point   designated   by   local   authorities.   Some
collection  points  accept  products  for  free.  The  separate  collection  and  recycling  of  your  product  at  the  time
of   disposal   will   help   conserve   natural   resources   and   ensure   that   it   is     recycled   in   a   manner   that   protects
human  health  and  the  environment.
