Emerging Domain in Electronics-1 2020-21

This document contains a sessional exam for a class on emerging domains in electronics engineering. It has 3 sections with multiple choice, numerical and conceptual questions. [Section A] contains 5 multiple choice questions related to electronics concepts. [Section B] has 2 numerical questions involving conversions and diode parameters. [Section C] provides 2 long form conceptual/derivation questions, one each on simplifying logic expressions and explaining the working of a full wave rectifier with relevant calculations.

DEPARTMENT OF APPLIED SCIENCES (FIRST YEAR)
Sessional Exam-I (2020-21)
Subject code: KEC-101T
Class: FT 2 (I Sem) Subject: Emerging Domain in Electronics Engg. Max Marks: 30 Duration: 1Hr

Section A:-Attempt all Questions (5 *2marks):-

1. Show that: AB+ A(B + C)+ B(B + C) = B + AC

2. Distinguish between Zener and Avalanche breakdown.
3. Solve using K-Map method
F(A,B,C,D) =∑ m(0,1,3,4,7,9,11,12,14,15) + ∑d (2,5,10)
4. Explain the operation of Half-wave voltage doubler.
5. Draw the output waveform for given input & clipper circuit.

Section B:-Attempt Any two Question (2*5 marks):-

1. Perform the following conversions:

a) (1234.56)8 = (?)10 b) (10110101001.101011)2 = (?)16 c) (988.86)10= (?)2
d) (532.65)10= (?)16 e) (ABCD. EF)16 = (?)8

2. Define following diode parameters:

a) Static resistance
b) Dynamic resistance
c) Knee voltage
d) Reverse breakdown voltage
e) Peak inverse voltage (PIV)

3. For a Zener regulator shown in the figure, calculate the range of input voltage for which
output will remain constant. VZ= 20 V, IZmax= 60 mA, rZ= 0 Ω.

Section C:-Attempt Any One Question (10*1 marks):-

1. Simplify and realize the following expressions using only NAND and NOR:

(i) (ii) Y = AB+ AC+ BD+ CD

2. With a neat circuit diagram, explain the working of a full wave rectifier along with relevant
Waveforms .The input to the full wave rectifier is v(t) = 200 sin 50t. If RL is 1 kΩ and forward
resistance of diode is 50 Ω, find:
a) D.C current through the circuit
b) The A.C (rms) value of current through the circuit
c) The D.C output voltage
d) The D.C power output
e) Rectifier efficiency.
