Test 1 ECE CDB3022 - CEB3013 - May 2020

This document provides instructions and questions for an online environmental engineering test to be taken on July 8, 2020 from 2-3 pm. It is comprised of 4 multiple choice questions testing various concepts relating to environmental chemistry and air pollution control. Students are assigned specific parts of each question based on the last digit of their student ID number. The test covers topics like the responsibilities of environmental engineers, the enhanced greenhouse effect from haze particles, strategies for managing COVID-19 waste, modeling pollutant dispersion from industrial stacks, approaches for mitigating climate change, atmospheric stability classifications, and air pollution control equipment. Relevant reference materials are provided in an appendix.

Elaborate the responsibilities of an environmental engineer to solve
Environmental problem.
[5 marks]
b) Students with ID ending (4-6)
Haze is traditionally an atmospheric phenomenon in which dust, smoke, and
other dry particulates obscure the clarity of the sky. Recent haze phenomena
in Malaysia has affected the local livelihood. With an of a diagram, elaborate
enhanced greenhouse effect with the presence of haze particles
[5 marks]
c) Students with ID ending (7-9)
Propose a general strategy for Malaysian Hospitals to overcome COVID-19
patients waste to achieve safe and healthy environment
[5 marks]

Question 2

In a Palm Oil Mill, a power plant efficiently works to produce electricity with
effluent plume at stack along stack gas exit velocity with the Stack height (plume
rise) and wind speed at stack height condition provided in Table 1.

A nitric acid production plant was working with its full capacity in Johor Bahru. In
a clear sunny day with the sun nearly overhead, the stack of the plant was emitting
80 g/s of SO2 when the wind speed was 4 m/s at 10 m. The effective stack height of
this plant was observed 100 m. (The relevant graphs and tables for required data is
provided in APPENDIX)
