Machines Ece Class Samples

The document contains solutions to 10 problems related to electrical circuits and concepts: 1. It calculates the current produced by an electron flow of 18.75 x 1018 electrons over 2 seconds. 2. It draws and labels a circuit diagram for a 6V battery, switch, and lamp circuit where 2A flows when closed, and calculates the lamp's resistance as 3Ω. 3. It calculates the efficiency of a motor delivering 2 hp from 1.8 kW of input power as 82.88%.

NAME: SECTION: BS-ECE 2B

1. A material with an excess of 25 x 1018 electron loses 6.25 x 1018 electrons. The excess electrons
are then made to flow past a given point in 2s. Find the current produced by the resultant
electron flow.

Solution: Given:

∆Q
I= formula 1 C = 6.24 x 1018
∆t
3C
I= Q = 3C Therefore,
2s
18
I = 1.5 A t = 2s Q1=25 x 10

Q2=6.25 x 10 18

18.75 x 1018

3. A circuit consists of a 6-V battery, a switch, and a lamp. When the switch is closed, 2 A flows in
the circuit. Draw the circuit and label completely. What is the resistance of the lamp?

Solution: Given:

V
R= formula V = 6V
I
6V
R= I = 2A
2A
R=3Ω

5. A motor delivers 2 hp and receives 1.8 kW of power. Find it’s efficiency.

Solution: Given:

Efficiency = (poutput / pinput) x 100 formula poutput = 2 hp

Efficiency = ( 2 hp x 746 / 1.8 kW) x 100 pinput = 1.8 kW

Efficiency = 82.88%
6. A generator receives 7 hp and supplies 20 A at 220 V. Find the power supplied by the generator
and its efficiency.

Solution: Given:

P = VI formula I = 20 A

P = 220 V x 20 A V = 220 V

P = 4400 joules

9. How much does it cost to operate a 5.5-kW electric range for 3 1⁄2 h at P10.09 per kWh?

Solution: Given:

1
E = tP formula t=3 h
2
1
E=3 h x 5.5 kW P = 5.5 kW
2
E = 19.25 kWh

Total cost = 19.25 kWh x P10.09

Total cost = P194.00

10. Fill in the indicated quantity.

# V I R
A 2400 V ? 1MΩ
B ? 2.5 A 6.4 Ω
C 110 V 2 mA ?
D 60 V ? 12 k Ω
E ? 8 mA 5kΩ

Solution:

a. V = 2400 V b. I = 2.5 A c. V = 110 V

R=1MΩ R = 6.4 Ω I = 2 mA
I=? V=? R=?
V V
I= formula V = RI formula R= formula
R I
2400V 110 V
I= V = 6. 4 Ω x 2.5 A R=
1M Ω 2 mA
I = 2.4 mA V = 16 V R = 55000 Ω or 55 k Ω

d. V = 60 V e. I = 8 mA

R = 12 k Ω R=5kΩ

V
I= formula V = RI formula
R
60V
I= V = 5 k Ω x 8 mA
12k Ω
I = 5 mA V = 40 V
