Type Of Vessels (Part 1)

 PASSENGER SHIPS

The main function of passenger ship as the name says is to transport passengers,
but the can also carry some cargo. The type of passenger ships are ferries and
cruise ships.

Types:

1. Ferries
Ferries are vessels for short sea trips they usually carry passengers
and vahicles as we can see in the picture.

2. Cruise Ships
o A large number of deck and compartments.
o There aree different kinds of entertainment (Shows,
Parties,etc.);
o They stop at different port of call.
 CARGO VESSELS

1. Dry Bulk Carriers


o Bulk Cargo : Unpacked cargo.
o Dry bulk cargo: Unpacked and solid cargo.
Type of bulk cargo:
1. Ore
2. Grains
There are two type off dry bulk carriers which are Ore Carriers and
Bulk Carriers. Ore Carriers transport mineral cargo while bulk carrier
transport grain cargo.

2. Tankers
Tankers are vessels designed to transport liquids in bulk.
Some type of tankers:
o Oil Tankers
Types:
1. Crude tankers: Carry crude oil.
2. Products tankers: Carry refined oil (gasoline, diesel…).

o LPG Carriers
LPG Carriers transport Liquified Petroleum Gas.

o LNG Carriers
LNG Carrier transport Liquefied natural Gas.
3. Container Ships
Container ships carry cargo in containers. Nowadays most general
cargo that is transported over sea is transported on container ships.
General cargo ships transport cargo in:
1. Sacks
2. Bales
3. Boxes
4. Drums
5. Crates

4. Roll-on Roll-off Vessels

5. Reefers
Reefers transport that needs tobe refrigerated such as fruits,
vegetables, and products

 TUGS (TUGBOATS)

Tugs are small vessels used to assist others.


 Tugs in actions:
1. The tug is pulling the container ship.
2. The tugs are pushing the ships.
3. The tug is escorting the ship.
4. The tugs are towing the platform.

 PSVs (PLATFORM SUPPLY VESSELS)

Vessels designed to send supplies, such as water, food and fuel to


platforms.

 AHTS (ANCHOR HANDLING TUG SPPLY VESSELS)


o Handle anchor for platforms
o Tow platforms
o Transport supplies

 FIREBOATS
Fireboats are designed to extinguish fire.

 DREDGERS
Dregers are used to excavate and remove material from the seabed.

 PILOT BOAT

 FPSO (FLOATING, PRODUCTION, STORAGE AND OFFLOADING


UNIT)

These Units:
o Receive oil from production platforms.
o Process, strore and send it to tangkers.
