Criteria for Validation of Research Instrument

Using the criteria for evaluating questionnaire developed by Good and Scates (1972) below, please
evaluate the attached questionnaire for the proposed study (1 being poor and 5 being excellent).

Criteria for Validity Score


1. The questionnaire is short enough and respondents respect it and would not drain too much
of their precious time.
2. The questionnaire is interesting and has a face appeal such that respondents will be induced
to respond to it and accomplish it fully.
3. The questionnaire can obtain some depth to responses and avoid superficial answers.
4. The items/questions and their alternative responses are not too suggestive.
5. The questionnaire can elicit responses which are definite but not mechanically forced.
6. Questions/items are stated in such a way that the responses will not be embarrassing to the
person/s concerned.
7. Questions/items are formed in such a manner as to avoid suspicion on the part of the
respondents.
8. The questionnaire is not too narrow, not restrictive or limited in its philosophy.
9. The responses to the questioannaire when taken as a whole could answer the basic purpose
for which the questionnaire is designed and therefore considered valid.
