Worksheet in Grade 5 Mathematics Name: - Section

The document is a worksheet for grade 5 mathematics. It covers the order of operations using the acronym PMDAS (Parentheses, Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtraction). The worksheet provides examples of applying the PMDAS rules to solve multi-step arithmetic problems. It then gives students practice problems to solve using the PMDAS order of operations. The problems include evaluating expressions and determining whether mathematical sentences are correct or incorrect.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Content Standard : The learner demonstrates understanding of divisibility,
order of operations, factors and multiples, and four
fundamental operations involving fractions.
Performance Standard : The learner is able to apply divisibility, factors, and
multiples, and the four fundamental operations
involving fractions in mathematical problems and real-
life situations.
Competency : The learner performs a series of more than two
operations on whole numbers applying Parenthesis,
Multiplication, division, Addition, subtraction (PMDAS)
or Grouping, Multiplication, Division, Addition,
Subtraction (GMDAS) correctly.
Duration : Week 3
Topic : State, Explain, and Interpret Parenthesis,
Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtraction
(PMDAS) or Grouping, Multiplication, Division,
Addition, Subtraction (GMDAS) rule

PMDAS – an acronym for Parentheses, Multiplication, Division, Addition and
Subtraction

Rules to follow in the order of operations:

Step1: Remember to ALWAYS simplify everything inside the grouping

symbols. Examples of grouping symbols are parentheses (  ), brackets , and
braces {  }. For nested grouping symbols, work it out from the inside and out.

Step 2: Next, multiply and/or divide whichever comes first from left to right
before performing addition and subtraction.

Step 3: Lastly, add and/or subtract whichever comes first from left to right.

Examples:
  9 x (3 + 4) ÷ 3 12 + 2 x (14 + 6) ÷ 4

9x7÷3 12 + 2 x (20 ÷ 4)

63 ÷ 3 12 + 2 x 5

21 12 + 10

Instructions: A. Complete the following to make the statement correct. Write your
answers in the box provided for.

1. 7 x (24 ÷ 4) + 2 x 5 5. 5 x 5 + 5 ÷ 5 – 5 x 5 ÷ 5

7x +2x5 + - ÷5

+ -

2. (5 + 7) – 2 ÷ 2 6. 4 x (6 + 8) ÷ 2 - 12

-2 ÷2 4x ÷ 2 - 12

÷2 4x - 12

- 12

3. (8 + 18 ÷ 9) ÷ (4 x 3 – 7)

(8 + )÷( – 7)
7. 5 + 4 x 9 – (6 ÷ 3)

10 + 6 - 7 + –

10 + 6 –

B. Put a check on the word True if the mathematical sentence is correct and False
if it is incorrect.

True False 8. 7 x (3 + 4) – 5 = 79

True False 9. (14 x 5) + 12 – (2 x 6) = 80

True False 10. 18 – (7 + 9) ÷ 4 = 2

True False 11. (5 x 6) + (8 ÷ 2) – 4 = 30
