WORKSHEET IN GRADE 5 MATHEMATICS

Name: ______________________________________ Section: ____________________

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Content Standard : The learner demonstrates understanding of divisibility,
order of operations, factors and multiples, and four
fundamental operations involving fractions.
Performance Standard : The learner is able to apply divisibility, factors, and
multiples, and the four fundamental operations
involving fractions in mathematical problems and real-
life situations.
Competency : The learner performs a series of more than two
operations on whole numbers applying Parenthesis,
Multiplication, division, Addition, subtraction (PMDAS)
or Grouping, Multiplication, Division, Addition,
Subtraction (GMDAS) correctly.
Duration : Week 3
Topic : State, Explain, and Interpret Parentheses,
Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtraction
(PMDAS) or Grouping, Multiplication, Division,
Addition, Subtraction (GMDAS) rule

For a mathematical expression involving a combination of operations,

multiplication and division should be done first from left to right and then followed
by addition and subtraction, also from left to right. This is called the MDAS Rule.

MDAS means Multiplication, Division, Addition and Subtraction.

Example:

8 x 2+ 5 12 – 7 + 6 + 12

16 + 5 5 + 6 + 12

11 + 12

23

However, when operations are inside the parentheses or group, they should
be performed using the MDAS Rule starting from the innermost parentheses or
group before the operations outside the parentheses.

Examples:
  9 x (3 + 4) ÷ 3 12 + 2 x (14 + 6) ÷ 4

9x7÷3 12 + 2 x (20 ÷ 4)

63 ÷ 3 12 + 12 x 5

21 12 + 10

NOW IT’S YOUR TURN!

Instructions: A. Perform the indicated operations in to find the value of n.

Remember to follow the rules of the order of operations.

1. 18 ÷ 9 + 7 = n

2. 6 + 15 ÷ 3 x 2 = n

3. 30 – 9 ÷ 3 = n

4. 10 + 6 – 7 + (10 – 5) = n

5. 7 – 3 x 10 ÷ 5 + 1 = n

6. 7 x 13 – 12 = n

7. 3 x 8 ÷ 4 + 7 = n

8. (8 + 18 ÷ 9) ÷ (4 x 3 – 7) = n

9. 8 + 16 -14 ÷ 2 = n

10. 6 x 3 + 9 – 8 ÷ 2 = n

B. Find the operational signs ( +, -, x, ÷ ) that make each sentence true. Write your
answer on the blanks provided for.

11. 7 ___ 2 + 5 ___ 3 = 16

12. (100 ÷ 2 x 3) ___ (23 x 2 ___ 4) = 100

13. 6 ___ (2 + 5 – 4) ___ 3 = 6

14. 4 + 2 ___ (15 ÷ 5) ___ 8 = 2

15. 5 ___ 6 + (11 ___ 2) ÷ 3 = 33
