FIXATED- A SHORT FILM

BY BETH TALMER-JONES
10/12/20
Pre-Production Booklet

(INT): DIMLY LIT RED DARKROOM – DAY

The darkroom is quiet, only preoccupied by one person, the red

light allowing only the smallest amount of visibility through.
THE CAMERA PUSHES FORWARD TOWARDS THE PERSON IN THE ROOM A MID
SHOT from behind their back revealing a small glace at the
pictures being delicately hung up to finish the development.
The camera remains still as the person continues to work on
developing pictures. The tone is calm and quiet.
THE CAMERA SMOOTHLY FOLLOWS the person around the room
allowing him to be seen clearer. He is tall, lanky, quite
scrawny looking. His hair a mess of blonde and brown barley
showing his eyes. THE CAMERA FOLLOWS HIM back to the line
where the pictures are being hung. THE CAMERA STAYS FOCUSED on
the picture of a young man that was being developed
previously. MONOTONED SOUND STARTS TO PLAY.

(EXT): BUSY STREETS OF LONDON, ENGLAND – DAY

THE SHOT CHANGES TO THE STREETS OF LONDON, busy with people
rushing to get last minute Christmas shopping. Its cloudy, not
much life to the city other than the obnoxious amount of
bright flashing Christmas lights in nearly every window and
thousands of passers by all on a separate mission. THE CAMERA
CATCHES AHOLD OF MILES and begins to follow him on his
journey.
A YOUNG MALE COMES INTO SHOT. He is recognisable as the one
previously seen in the pictures at the beginning. He is
smaller than MILES, headphones on, keeping himself to himself;
someone who seems insignificant in comparison to the size and
depth of the city. MONTONED SOUND STARTS TO PLAY AGAIN. THE
CAMERA FOLLOWS MILES’ EYE MOVEMENT AS HE WATCHES THE YOUNG MAN
PASS BY. MILES gets up once the young man has left the shot
and walks behind him, both men are in shot. THE SMOOTHNESS OF
THE CAMERA HAS BEEN LOST AND BECOMES A LOT MORE SHAKEY. MILES
stops in his tracks as THE CAMERA MOVES PAST HIM STILL
ATTACHED TO THE YOUNG MAN and follows him into the TATE MODERN
art gallery.
Pre-Production Booklet

THE SHOT CHNAGES TO MILE’S POINT OF VIEW. We see the young man
minding his own business just appreciating the art in the
gallery. THE CAMERA PULLS BACK TO REVAEL MILES looking at the
young man in the same way he were looking at the art. THE
CAMERA PANS DOWN to MILES as he pulls out his phone from his
jean pockets THE CAMERA FOLLOWING THE MOVEMENT as he lifts the
phone up towards the young man. MONOTONE SOUND PICKS UP. MILES
begins to take pictures of the young man from behind. The
lighting is gloomy and has little life to it.

SHOT CHANGES TO MILES OUTSIDE ALONE. For the first time we see
remorse on his face, almost a sense of guilt. He is playing
with the edge of his jacket nervously and fidgeting. He
shakily takes a hold of his phone and begins scrolling through
the pictures he took of the young man (these are shown closer
through editing on screen)

(INT): DIMLY LIT RED DARKROOM- DAY

THE SHOT CHANGES AGAIN, back in the darkroom MILES is holding
the developed picture of the young man we were shown earlier.
MID SHOT OF MILES sat with his head in his hands, picture sat
to the left of him on the counter he is sat at, he grips his
hair tightly out of stress and pulls himself back up to face
the picture. He turns towards a box beside him filled with
various pieces of paper and pictures. He hesitates, his hand
hovering over the box cautiously. In a sudden movement MILES
stand up and pushes the chair back violently, he takes a hold
of the picture and rips it up, leaving it to fall on the
floor, MILES leaves the room angrily picking up the box on the
way out and slamming the door behind him.

(EXT): IN A GARDEN - DUSK

THE NEXT SHOT STARTS WITH A FIREPIT DOOR OPENING, the box gets
emptied into the firepit followed by lighter fluid and a
match. The shot remains still on the fire as the bright glow
of the fire turns the pictures into ash.

(INT): DIMLY LIT RED DARK ROOM- DAY

WIDE SHOT OF TOM SAT ON THE FLOOR looking small and degraded.
His head finds his way to his hands again.

MUSIC BEGINS TO PLAY AS THE SHOT FADES TO BLACK, CREDITS BEGIN
