Jesusa Mary Jane L. - BEED 1B - LM 6

This document contains instructions for 5 learning activities involving graph theory concepts like vertices, edges, degree, planar graphs, Euler circuits, and graph coloring. For activity 1, students are asked to identify vertices, edges, and degrees in sample graphs. Activity 2 involves drawing spanning trees. Activity 3 requires identifying and drawing connected and planar graphs, Euler circuits, and finding graph faces. Activity 4 instructs coloring graph vertices with a minimum number of colors. Activity 5 tests identifying the number of colors needed for graph coloring.

Part 1. Abstraction (Visual Analysis)
Instructions: Satisfy what each item requires.

1. For both Figure 1.a and

1.b, identify the following
a. Vertices
b. Edges
c. Degree of each vertex

1. A (FIGURE 1.A)

A.) The graph shows that there are 5 vertices which are A, B, C, D, E

B.) It has 8 edges (AB), (BC), (CD), (DA), (AE), (EB), (ED), (EC)

C.)

Vertex A B C D E
Degree 3 3 3 3 4

1. B (FIGURE 1.B)

A.) The graph shows above that there are 6 vertices which are A, B, C, D, E, F

B.) It has 8 edges (AB), (AC), (AF), (CD), (DE), (BF), (BE), (BC)

C.)

Vertex A B C D E F
Degre 3 4 3 2 2 2

2. For the directed graph as shown in Figure 2. Identify the indegree and outdegree of
each vertex.

Vertex Indegree Outdegree

A 2 1
B 2 0
C 1 2
D 0 1
E 1 1
F 2 1
Part 2. Application (Practical Comprehension)
Instructions: Answer the question stated below.

How will you apply the basic concepts of graph theory to real-life situations?

The theory and probability of graphs make it easy to guarantee a consistent service, such as
seeking diversions while a certain link is busy. Both roads and motorways also form a wide
network, which is used for mapping systems like Google Maps when finding out the fastest path
between two given points.

Learning Activity No. 2 - Abstraction (Visual Analysis)

Instructions: Draw all the spanning trees of the following graphs.

A.)

B.)
C.)

Learning Activity No. 3 - Abstraction (Visual

Analysis) Instructions: Satisfy what each item
requires considering the given graph as shown on the
right side.
1. Draw the two connected graphs
2. Draw two planar graphs
3. Draw two Euler circuits
4. Find the number of faces in the graph.

1. Draw the two connected graphs

2. Draw two planar graphs

3. Draw two euler circuits

4. Find the number of faces in the graph

F= e-v+2
Where:
F= faces
E= Edges
V= Vertices

F= e-v+2
= 28-15+2
= 15

Learning Activity No. 4 – Application (Collaboration)

Instructions: Color each vertex such that the least colors of crayons are used. You may repeat
colors as long as they are not next to each other. Compare
What did you notice about the number of colours per figure?
I notice that every figure does not have a same number of color used because as we can see
in the given figures the more vertices the figure it have the more colors will need to use.

Learning Activity No. 5 – Application (Creativity)

Instructions: For each of the following graphs, identify how many colors are needed?

ANSWERS:

1.) 4
2.) 2
3.) 4
4.) 2
5.) 2
