The document is a test paper from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at BMS College of Engineering, Bangalore for their fifth semester CAD/CAM & Robotics course. The test contains two questions worth a total of 40 marks and covers topics related to CAD tools, homogeneous transformation matrices, Bezier curves, ruled surfaces, and tabulated cylinders. Students are asked to derive equations, write transformation matrices, find points on curves, and sketch and explain surface types. The questions test students' understanding of key CAD/CAM concepts and their ability to apply mathematical and geometric principles.

No. 1. a) With the help of sketches, elaborate on definition of CAD tools 08 1 1 based on (i) their constituents & (ii) their implementation in a design environment. b) Derive the expression for homogeneous transformation matrix 08 1 1 for rotation of an object about an arbitrary point. c) The two end points of a line segment have coordinates (1, 3) 04 1 1 and (3, 6). If this is to be scaled to twice its present size, write the transformation matrix and the coordinates of the new end points. 2. a) The coordinates of four control points are given by: P0 = [2 2 14 1 1 0], P1 = [2 3 0], P2 = [3 3 0] and P3 = [3 2 0]. Determine the equation of the resulting Bezier curve. Also find points on the curve for u = 0, ¼, ½, ¾ and 1. b) Sketch and explain (in-brief): (i) ruled surface & (ii) 06 1 1 tabulated cylinder.
