PROFESSIONAL PORTFOLIO CALM 20 - MCINNIS

Purpose: To gather professional resources and information for future access.


A portfolio is:
- A collection of work that is purposeful, demonstrating competence
- A tool for goal-setting and action, especially related to post-secondary
- A resource to develop – update and changed for different purposes – for career, educational, and other uses

Assignment:
1. Collect evidence of professional, personal and academic development and achievement
2. Organize it & hand it in

Suggested Portfolio Organization and Documents:

Section 1: Personal Development


This section demonstrates what you know about yourself. What steps are you taking to form a plan for the future?
- Autobiography
- Who am I? Assignment
- Personality tests (Colours, communication styles, Myers-Briggs, Blueprints, ALIS, etc.)
- Professional Philosophy Assignment
- SMART Goals – 1, 3 & 5 years – Assignment

Section 2: Personal Achievements


This section demonstrates personal accomplishments. Documentation should be of specific events, achievements,
activities or involvement; use it to demonstrate dedication, teamwork, and other desirable attributes
- Personal Marketing – demonstrate your character in action (may be photos, thank you cards, team pictures,
reflections, etc. of extracurricular activities, volunteerism, coaching, etc.)
- Certificates of achievement or recognition – academic, arts, and sports awards; baptism/confirmation
certificates, citizenship, language proficiency, typing etc.
- Work Samples – writing samples, images of you working, photos of projects, etc.
- Education – up-to-date school grades (eventually transcript/diploma, etc.)

Section 3: Professional Documents


This section demonstrates your professional qualifications and certifications.
- Resume Assignment
- Cover letter Assignment
- Reference letters (minimum 2 – one professional, one character – no immediate family members)
- Certification (Course completion or registration) – First Aid, drivers training, license, babysitting, lifesaving,
apprenticeship cards, RAP, child welfare clearance, H2S, confined space, WHMIS etc.

Section 4: Career and Education Planning


This section demonstrates specific education and career planning
- Budget assignment
- 3 job profiles with schooling options
- -Occupation Research Assignment
- Course planning from now until graduation
- Information about schools, scholarships, jobs, etc. with application forms and deadlines

Take note:
- Documents should be recent (aim for the last 3 years – no older than grade 8)
- Any documents in other languages should include an explanation &/or translation
- Order sections reverse-chronologically (newest to oldest)
- Digital format may require scanning, digital documents must be .jpeg or .PDF format
- Do not use original documents - make photocopies so they won’t be lost
- If you want to adjust the organization, please discuss this with your teacher
