1. Motivation
The motivation should clearly specify why this project is being made. It must be a logical
inference about your efforts you have made in selecting your project.

2. Overview
Specify the core idea behind the project. This should include
2.1 Problem Statement
State a concise problem statement for your FYP (which particular problem your
proposed system will address)
2.2 Significance of the Project
Your motivation for attempting the project (its importance, practicality, usefulness
and academic value if any). This section should include the importance of your
work, the difficulty of the area, and the impact it might have if successful.
2.3 Description of the Project
A description of the project that is clear, self-contend, and will be understood by
non-specialist (such as faculty members and other FYP groups who are not working
in the same area). This section should identify the problem you are trying to solve
(you may need to be more technical here), the scope of your work (a generalized
approach, or for a specific situation).
2.4 Background of the Project
A review of background material that you studied, or was provided for the problem.
It should contain full citations of articles, books, software packages, www and other
media.

3. Process Model and Methodology

3.1 Process Model
Identify the process model that you are going to use for the development of your
project, along with the rationale for choosing the specific process model.

3.2 Methodology
This section should elaborate the technical challenges and advantages of the project
including the proposed solution that is in your mind to the said problem. A project can be
divided into three major phases as follow;

3.2.1 Design phase

State which design and architecture you have chosen for your project and why?
3.2.2 Implementation phase

Department of Software Engineering-NUML Page 2|5

State which implementation methodology (Programming Approach, Algorithms /
Data Structure, Languages, Database etc.) you will use and why?
3.2.3 Testing phase
How do you plan to test the implementation of your project? What sections or
aspects of the project should be tested? State when and how.

4. Features
Specify the features of your project which would make it significant for the evaluators.
Indicate the utilization/benefits of your project. The more you specify the more useful
will be your project. Features should be point-wise with some description and should be
properly numbered.
 Start with the most significant feature.
Details of the feature will go here
 Second most significant feature.
Details of the feature will go here
 And so on.
Details of the feature will go here

5. Hardware and Software Requirements

You should provide a detailed list of all hardware and software needed for the successful
completion of the project. If the University does not have the required hardware and
software, you must provide details how do you plan to get them.

6. Diagrammatic Representation of the Overall System

An abstract/high level diagram of the overall system is needed on a separate page of this
proposal. The diagram should be labelled and should give a general idea how a system
should work.

7. References
List and number all bibliographical references at the end of your proposal. When
referenced in the text, enclose the citation number in square brackets, for example [1].
Where appropriate, include the name(s) of editors of referenced books/paper/article.
