CMMI:

Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) is a process level improvement training and appraisal

program. Administered by the CMMI Institute, a subsidiary of ISACA, it was developed at Carnegie
Mellon University (CMU). The CMMI framework aims to provide a tiered approach for managers to
analyze and then increase the overall productivity and efficiency of an organization primarily concerned
with software development, services, or acquisition. After individual certification practitioners apply
their skills to evaluate and certify organizational processes.

PMI

Project Management Body of Knowledge/Project Management Integration —defines and teaches the
processes, terminology, and best practices necessary for a manager to plan, manage, and close any
generic project across multiple disciplines. These practices are widely accepted across the project
management industry.

Both the CMMI & PMIs cover a broad body of information regarding how to appropriately manage and
develop a program or project as a manager (PM).

How to meet level 5:

At level 5 processes are concerned with addressing common causes of process variation and changing
the process to achieve the established quantitative process-improvement objectives. Level 5 focuses on
continually improving process performance through both incremental and innovative technological
improvements. Quantitative process-improvement objectives for the organization are established,
continually revised to reflect changing business objectives, and used as criteria in managing process
improvement. The effects of deployed process improvements are measured and evaluated against the
quantitative process-improvement objectives. Both the defined processes and the organization's set of
standard processes are targets of measurable improvement activities by following these organizations
can achieve level 5.
